THIS IS A 1970 DUO SPOILER 15 FT FIBERGLASS TRI-HULL. IT'S OLD BUT IT'S NICE. IT RUNS LIKE A TOP. SHORT STORY ABOUT THIS BOAT. IT WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW BY AN OLDER GENTLEMAN THAT USED IT AT LAKE ERIE. HE BECAME UNABLE TO USE THE BOAT AS THE YEARS WENT BY AND HE PARKED IT IN AN OLD GARAGE. HE WOULD GO OUT AND JUST SIT IN IT AS HE LOVED IT. AS THE YEARS WENT BY THE GARAGE ROOF DEVELOPED A LEAK AND IT WOULD LEAK ON THE BOAT. EVENTUALLY IT ROTTED THE COVER AND RAIN GOT INSIDE AND ROTTED THE TRANSOM AND THE REAR PART OF THE FLOOR. A FRIEND OF MINE PURCHASED THE BOAT FROM THE OLD MANS SON AND WE PURCHASED THE BOAT FROM HIM. IT WAS ORIGINAL COMPLETE WITH THE MOTOR AND ORIGINAL TRAILER. FROM THAT POINT FORWARD I DID A COMPLETE REBUILD OF THE INSIDE OF THE BOAT. I REMOVED THE TOP CAP FROM THE BOAT AND PUT IN A NEW TRANSOM AND FLOOR AND RE-FIBERGLASSED STRINGERS, FLOOR AND TRANSOM. INSTALLED NEW CARPET AND USED EVERYTHING THAT WAS ORIGINAL TO THE BOAT SO AS TO KEEP IT AS CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL LOOK AS POSSIBLE. I MODIFIED THE SEATS AND REMOVED TWO OF THEM. (I DO HAVE THE OTHER 2 SEATS). I ADDED A LIVE WELL, ROD HOLDERS AND A BRAND NEW GAS TANK. INSIDE I HAVE ALSO ADDED BLUE LIZARD LIGHTS FOR NIGHT FISHING ALONG WITH A NEW GARMAN DOWN-VU FISH AND DEPTH FINDER WITH WATER TEMP FEATURE. THE BOAT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE ORIGINAL 50 HP MERCURY THUNDERBOLT ENGINE THAT I HAD A MARINE SHOP GO OVER IT BEFORE REINSTALLING IT ONTO THE TRANSOM. IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL PAPERWORK INSIDE A POCKET ON THE MOTOR COWLING. I THEN PURCHASED THE 6 HP EVINRUDE AND PUT THAT ON THE BOAT AND BOTH MOTORS ARE STEERABLE FROM THE CONSOLE. THE BOAT HAS A BRAND NEW BATTERY AS WELL. THE TRAILER IS ORIGINAL TO THE BOAT. I SANDED IT AND PAINTED IT AND ADDED ALL NEW LIGHTS AND WIRING. THE TRAILER HAS TWO BRAND NEW TIRES ON IT AND THE BEARINGS HAVE ALSO BEEN REDONE. THERE IS A SPARE TIRE THAT IS ALSO NEW. ADDED A NEW DOLLY LEG AND WINCH. THE BOAT COMES WITH A BRAND NEW MOORING COVER AND BIMINI TOP WITH ALL NEW HARDWARE THAT I HAD MADE FOR THE BOAT BY AN AMISH MAN. THE BIMINI TOP WAS MADE SO THAT IT CAN BE ADDED ONTO IF YOU WOULD LIKE IT TO BE BIGGER. BOAT WAS ALWAYS GARAGED KEPT AND SINCE REFURBISHING, IT HAS NEVER BEEN KEPT OUTSIDE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REMOVE THE LIVE WELL IT WOULD BE EASY TO DO. INCLUDED IN SALE WILL BE BOAT BUMPERS AS WELL AS ANCHORS AND ROPES MANY HOURS SPENT REFURBISHING IT AND LOTS OF $$$$$ TOO. IT WAS WORTH IT. THE BOAT IS VERY COMFORTABLE TO FISH OUT OF AND THE BOATS RUNS REALLY WELL.DON'T LET THE YEAR FOOL YOU AS THIS IS A VERY VERY NICE BOAT. HAVE CLEAR TITLES IN HAND. PAYPAL DEPOSIT WILL BE ACCEPTED AS WELL AS CASH UPON PICK UP PAYMENT WILL BE DUE WITHIN 3 DAYS. Wild Blue Yonder is a fresh water Catalina 270, designed to provide rewarding performance and comfortable accommodations for the active sailing family. Both goals are accomplished through the selection of a stable hull form with generous beam and fine entry forward. This approach delivers a hull that is wide at the sheer for maximum deck space, reserve buoyancy and good performance to weather. Semi-elliptical wing keels are matched with a balanced elliptical rudder to insure predictable handling and a balanced helm in a variety of conditions. The rigging has double spreaders with fore and aft lowers which make the mast very stable, easy to set up and tune. This design provides the narrow shroud base necessary for proper Genoa sheeting to weather. The deck is highlighted by a "big boat" cockpit seats with ergonomically contoured seat backs necessary for long term comfort aboard. This has been a fresh water boat for it entire existence and has been extremely well maintained. The bilge is bone dry and most of the equipment has been added or replaced in the last 10 years. The hull exterior, deck, bottom, and structure were visually examined and tested by percussive sounding. Moisture levels in the fiberglass and coring were measured with a GRP-33 electrophsics capacitance type moisture meter in strategic locations. Meter reads on 0-30 scale, 12% considered average, good and dry. Elevated numbers do not necessarily constitute a failure but can eventually lead to replacement or repair of structural members. Stringers were found to be considerably reasonably dry with low levels of moisture averaging 15%, which is good. No visual stress cracks detected and pricking with a pocket knife was unable to find any soft spots. Proper ventilation in the bilge can help maintain these low numbers over time. Transom was dry without issue Hull sides were inspected best possible and all appears good Bottom was not inspected because she lye afloat. Deck and hardware was inspected and found to be solid with no decay found. Carbureted gasoline equipped with dirty flame arrestors that require cleanning (U.S.C.G. requirement) Note: seacock backing boards require attention The bilge has evidence of the propeller shaft packing leaking; packing should be checked regularly and adjusted as needed to obtain the recommended drip rate of 1 drop per minute Halon requires periodic maintenance; please read label on unit for directions Great Lakes Disposal Plaque was not sighted (U.S.C.G requirement) Various standards and recommended practices for small crafts, including current portions of those used by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), and The National Fire Protection Agency (NFTA 302), was utilized as criteria during the examination of this vessel.
