1976 South Coast 22 The SC 22 was the most numerous of the South Coast boats with over 3,000 produced. Desiring to capitalize on the emerging trailerable cruising sailboat market, South Coast redesigned the Alberg SC 21, lengthening the boat, installing a bigger doghouse, and replacing the fin keel with a swing keel. The result was a fast, versatile and seaworthy trailerable pocket cruiser. At one time there was an active one-design racing fleet, with an annual regatta held in Shreveport, Louisiana. The 22 was reasonably fast, a little tender, and a lot of fun to sail. It will keep up with a Catalina 22, but a comparably equipped boat will probably cost less money. SC 22s can be found around the country. The 22s had a roomy cockpit. The layout on most boats featured a v-berth forward. Going aft on the starboard side there was a sink/counter/storage. Going aft on the port was a port-a-potty and a quarterberth which converted into a not-very-roomy table. Deluxe pop top with sliding hatch, outboard bracket, swim ladder, bimini top, interior fabric cushions, forward hatch, mast light, bow pulpit, teak hand rails, main, jib and 150% Genoa, heavy duty trailer bow eye, trailer guides, large 6 gal gas tank, 2- #2 winches with handle, adjustable back stay tang, mast holder and raising bar, blocks for jib halyard, two dan-forth anchors, portable head, Pioneer AM/FM CD player, VHF marine radio, 12 volt battery, and solar charger. New tiller arm, main shrouds, automatic bilge pump, stainless steel keel cable and spreader boots. Re-gel coated deck and hull in 2001. 1976 Helms 25 Swing Keel 1976 fiberglass swing keel sailboat, with motor,on tandem trailer. This boat was designed and built by Jack Helms or Irmo, S.C.. Based on the Catalina 22', it has much more cockpit room and seating for 6. Rigged with a masthead sloop, with a transom hung rudder and tiller steering. Boat was largely refurbished in 2012-2015, new running rigging, new lighting, new interior woodwork, new porta-potty, new cushions covers in sunbrella fabric.
