We have owned this boat for about 12 years now. It was great for pulling the kids on the tube. The 85 hp Johnson fires right up. The boat has been stored inside since we owned it. It is a 1978 boat, motor, and Shoreland trailer. I am selling because the kids have grown, it doesn't get used much, and I bought a fishing boat instead. " There's a reason the TBX (Tourna-ment Boat Extraordinaire) is called what it's called. It's a blue-collar skier's boat, built to stand up to the rigorous demands of purists who want consistent pulls, dead-on tracking and never a single concession from the boat. The model name isn't too far from the truth. New American Skier president and former WaterSki Magazine test team member Ron Tanis knows how to build that kind of boat; he was a vice president of Skier during the company's heydays in the 1980s. He also knows what our test team skiers look for in a boat -- which just happens to be what the majority of consumers look for as well. Is it any wonder that he's hit the nail on the head with the reintroduction of the tournament-designed TBX? Not really. An engineer by trade, Tanis left no stone unturned in the TBX's construction. The TBX rides on a semi-modified vee with 4 degrees of deadrise aft. It uses an all-composite construction, so there's no wood in the structural sections of the boat. Excuse the use of the superlatives, but the TBX is one extraordinary slalom boat. Our skiers raved about the boat's strong, consistent pull through the course and about the low, soft and flat slalom wakes all the way into world-record territory. At one line length (35 off) they remarked: "It's flat, soft and there's no spray." At another (28 off), they matched it up with some of the best slalom boats in the world. This boat now certainly belongs in that class." (Waterski Magazine 06/14/2001) For Sale is such a 2001 American Skier/Elan TBX Pro inboard ski boat. It is equipped with a 320 hp TBI motor, bimini top, Perfect Pass speed control, heater, ski pylon, teak swim platform, mooring cover, and stainless four blade prop. It comes with a single axle trailer with surge brakes and fold up tongue. Some of the interior has been replaced and that which has not, does show some wear. The hull shows some dock rash and scratches. It is rated as a 20 foot boat. Perfect Pass meter shows about 320 hr. Boat runs well and has a great ski wake. Summer of 2014 the water pump, starter, bilge blower and spark plugs were replaced. Fall of 2014 the oil and filters were changed. The boat is ready for a summer of great skiing. The boat will come with misc life jackets, slalom ski, set of double skies, beginner wakeboard, and two ballast bags with pump. I am the third owner of boat with verifying documentation back to the MSO. Selling due a lack of interest from the family in skiing any more. Boat is not in perfect condition due to minor cosmetic issues (worn upholstery and hull scratches ) so it is priced well below NADA book value. I have an antique 1961 Century Ski Dart 17’ for sale. I originally purchased this boat as a fixer-upper project but I do not have the time or skills to properly restore this beauty. All the work is cosmetic; THE ENGINE RUNS PERFECTLY and just had a full tune-up. This is an American classic wood boat with a V-8 engine for maximum speed and power. The Ski Dart was one of the most popular models and was THE water-ski tow boat in the early 1960s. The windshield, steering wheel, throttle, seats, and dash gauges are original. The shifter, an old Morse unit, is not original and was added later. This boat is 17' in length and was made of plywood. The innovative design and sleek elements makes the Ski Dart a perfect addition for an antique collector or water vessel enthusiast. This boat restored is priced from $7,000- $8,000. 1993 American Skier PRO 19 American Skier boats (not to be confused with Correct Crafts American Skier) was a tournament boat company founded by Kenneth B. Elkind of North Miami Beach, Florida, USA, in 1975. Mr. Elkind, after retiring from the offshore racing circuits, became interested in the water skiing business.[1] In the early 1980s American Skier became one of the first tournament boat companies to be approved for competition by the American Water Ski Association.[2][3] The first 18' Skiers came out as 1976 models from a shop in Opa Locka Florida. In the early 1990s WESMAR took over ownership. They built the 1991-95 models in Ocoee, Florida, moved it to Cape Coral, Florida, and moved it again, this time to Giddings, Texas. Ron Tanis purchased the company in 1995[4] and moved the molds from Giddings to Winnsboro, Louisiana. Ron Tanis sold the company to the politician Jay Blossman, and the former professional water skier Ben Favret. Tanis had met Favret in high school.[5] Ben and Jay renamed the company to Elan Boats. The last "true" American Skiers were built in early 2002.1993 to 1994[edit]American Skier made the TBX, which shared many characteristics with the earlier Advance. Modifications were made in the late 1990s.[8][9]Late 1990s to early 2000s[edit]In 1995, the company was purchased by Ron and Susan Tanis, who began to rework the designs of American Skier boats, adding ideas to the boat designs. The first boats to receive the changes were the Open Bow Volante, the Lazer, and the TBX.In 1999, the American Skier plant moved into a larger facility in Kentwood, Louisiana, where boat development continued. Modifications and additions were made to the boats, and the Lazer was renamed the Laz Air.[10]
