2000 Catalina 42 Wind Horse layout is a Catalina 42 MKll 2 cabin Pullman owners berth. Want to go off shore cruising? This is the boat for you! The Catalina 42 MKll is one of the most successful 40 plus footers ever built the number is over 1000. Catalina's in-house design team, led by chief designer Gerry Douglas for the last 25 years, designed the Catalina 42. Introduced with the 1989 model year, the 42 was the first American built sailboat of this size to offer a three-stateroom layout. The Mk I version was built until February 1995 (hull # 477) when it was replaced with the Mk II version which remains in production as of the 2004 model year. There were very few changes between the Mk I and Mk II models although, as a concession to popular European styling, the transom was rounded off at the deck. In addition, storage was added to the cockpit seating and a two-stateroom layout option was offered. The construction of the Catalina 42. The hull is constructed of a solid laminate of fiberglass and resin with no core materials. The hull is fitted with a structural fiberglass liner that incorporates the cabin sole as well as berth and furniture foundations. The deck is a cored composite with fiberglass and 3/4" end grain balsa wood. Where deck hardware is installed and 1/2" plywood is used instead of balsa wood. The deck and hull are joined in a shoebox fashion flexible adhesives and stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers on eight-inch centers. There is an aluminum rub rail with vinyl insert fastened at the deck to hull joint with stainless steel screws.Wind Horse has all new electronics. Main sail has a batt car slider track and folds down into a Doyle Stack Pac. Cockpit has three electric winches and all lines lead to the cockpit for easy sail handling.Aft Mounted are solar panels and a wind generator for extended power charging along with extra propane tanks. 1989 Catalina 42 This 1989 Catalina 42 is a one owner, fresh water boat that has been in the same family for 26 years. The Catalina 42 was introduced in 1988, the hull was adapted from an earlier racing hull designed by Nelson Marek. Catalina Yachts modified the racing hull with a new cabin top, interior, and rig in order to make it a comfortable coastal cruising boat which two people could easily handle. The spacious design, three cabin, two head, with Pullman owner's berth is comfortable for a gang of crew or three couples on an extended cruise. With a race-bred hull, a substantial rig, and wing keel the boat is moderately stiff and capable of weather legs. When reaching or sailing down-wind the fun begins and the boat is capable of pushing the knot meter past 15 knots! As would be expected the deep keel version is slightly more weatherly than this wing keel version. However, it is reported that in 10 knots of true wind, she should make an honest 6 knots pointing to within 32 to 34 degrees of the apparent wind. Comfortable, sea-kindly, safe and fast. This Catalina 42 is a handsome boat that has been well maintained.
