Miami International Boat Show with Bobby Unser February introduced 46 Cougar raceboat. Steve was a late driver change and replaced Dave Bell who had undergone open heart surgery the previous day. They were also on board when the Sun Coast to Gold Coast record (originally established by Kyle Petty) was broken in 1998. That record would be a precursor to the Miami to Nassau to Miami record run which is documented in this video. On Monday morning June 15 1998 the crew of Harry Allen throttle man Steve Kildahl driver Kevin Brown navigator and Rich Quandt crew chief left the Marriot Miami Marina and headed out Government Cut (MacArthur Causeway) to set three new American Power Boat Association world records. Dave Bell Great Lakes Executive Vice President was in the drivers seat with Harry at the throttles Rich Quandt crew chief and navigator and Eric Lavine as the onboard technician. Bob Hallengren of Caterpillar and Bobby Chan of Ringhaver provided valuable assistance in preparing standard production engines for their extended duty. 1998 Spirit of America set 2 world records Tampa to Miami and Miami-Nassau-Miami in May and June. John Cosker Conner Marine and John Pompi Marine Performance were also key participants in the vessel design construction and upfit. the Spirit of America project was a culmination of Harry’s long time interest in offshore power boat racing which started with Cummin’s Engine Company in 1965 along with his dream of piloting the fastest boat from Miami to Nassau and back. 1998 Baja 36' Outlaw, This is the perfect boat. It is fast, it is safe, and it is for sale. I am open to all offers! This is not your average Baja Outlaw. This outlaw has very low total hours and has only 4.5 hours on a complete re-rig of the entire boat.Powered by two all new 756ci merlin big block monsters(built by Tony Hews Performance Reno, NV), #6 outdrives, refinished and balanced cleaver propellers and re-built transmissions. Only used in Lake Tahoe, CA. Engines: Over $40,000.00 per engine invested. Nothing but the best. "Big Chief Pontiac" Heads with T&D competition rocker arms (Made in Carson City, NV). Cobalt weighted crank shafts, Crower rods and belt driven camshafts. 1271 superchargers w/carbon fiber belts (rebuilt at the blower shop)and 4-1450 Holley carbs(re-built by Competition Carburetor Reno, NV). MSD boost retard ignitions and dual fuel supplies(electric and mechanical). Custom made Stelling Marine large tube headers and 6" noise cancelling muffler's (made in Canada) no hassle with switchable mufflers. Hull: Only two owners. Boat was purchased new in summer 1999 for $485,000.00. The engines were never quite right the boat would never get over 90 mph. I purchased the boat ran it for two years then rebuilt everything. This 2002 Glacier Bay Island Runner is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition all around, and has been a fantastic family/fishing boat. If you're reading this, I likely don't have to tell you how stable and smooth riding this boat is - it cuts through 3 - 5 foot waves like a knife through butter and has been great for fishing, diving, and family cruising here in the Florida Keys and offshore. The boat includes a working windlass and Lewmar anchor with 20ft of anchor chain and 150 ft anchor rode, which makes setting and hauling the anchor a breeze. She also includes a Garmin 2010c with maps of SE Florida and Charleston area (I am the second owner - the boat originally came from Charleston). The boat has a Ray Marine fish finder installed - the main unit works, but it doesn't have the transponder. I never purchased the Raymarine transponder b/c the Garmin also has sonar and finds fish and bottom structure just fine. Standard marine radio is installed and works well. As mentioned in the condition section, the head pump is not working, nor is the anchor light - I have the replacement kit for the anchor light, but I haven't installed it yet. The HPDI motors are powerful and very fuel efficient. They have been serviced at Bob Hewes Boats marina in Keystone Pt in 2013, and here in Key Largo by the former chief mechanic of a successful local Yamaha dealer in 2014. The 150 HPDIs are great, high performance motors, and these are in perfect working order. I have only used non-ethanol fuel in the motors (I also had the fuel tanks drained when I bought the boat to ensure I knew what fuel was getting to the motors), and I always use Yamaha Ring Free additive to the fuel as per Yamaha recommendations. The fuel system has water separator filters installed. The boat also includes a dive ladder. Please send an inquiry through ebay if you'd like additional information.
