As the proud owners of the Hughes Columbia for 32 years, they have always taken great care of this beautiful boat. Pride of ownership is on full display once you step inside the cabin and see the well preserved rich teak woodwork and cabinets. Like many boats that live outside in the Northwest, the Hughes can use an exterior pressure washing, however, this is a solid built Sloop in great condition that is truly a lot of boat for the price! The center cockpit bimini with newer looking Isinglass not only adds warmth and shelter in the cockpit but enhances the quality appearance. This is a Sailor's boat that offers a roomy cabin as a liveaboard and all the gear you need to hit the high seas! Stock #352513 THE CLASSIC 1981 39' HUGHES COLUMBIA 11.8 IS A PROVEN BLUEWATER CRUISER AND AN EXCELLENT LIVEABOARD!! This 1981 39' Hughes Columbia 11.8 fiberglass sailing yacht features a center cockpit and a spacious cabin. The owners purchased the Hughes in 1992 and it has been a proven cruiser with many trips to Alaska, along the west coast, and to Mexico. Excellent liveaboard boat with hand rubbed, oiled teak cabin interior and lots of storage. Hughes Boat Works was one of the largest production boatbuilders for a number of years in the 1970s. The company was started by Howard Hughes (no relation to the famous aviator) and his brother Peter Hughes. Hughes boats are manufactured to withstand the worst the high seas can deliver. The high ballast to weight ratio combined with the use of external lead ballast to lower the center of gravity gives this solid built cruiser exceptional knock-down resistance. The strong fiberglass domed hatches are firmly mounted on solid teak runners through bolted to the deck. The solid teak drop doors are well able to withstand the pounding of heavy sea. The self bailing cockpit is equipped with large scuppers fitted with easily accessible bonze seacocks. The interior of the Hughes is designed for utility, comfort and pleasing eye appeal. The galley is easily cleaned molded fiberglass and is equipped with a stainless steel sink and galley pump, ice box and a three burner propane stove and oven. Has a 12 volt marine electrical system supplying power for ample high intensity cabin lights and international navigation lights. This 1981 Hughes Columbia 11.8 has generous storage space throughout the boat and multiple berth accommodations along with 2 approved marine toilets. The Hughes Columbia is the right size for taking your friends and family on a cozy cruise through the Puget Sound or fulfil your bucket list dream of venturing out to other worldly ports! 1978 Columbia 10.7 Manufactured by Whittaker Corp., this is a classic Alan Payne design and one of the Columbia "wide-body super cruisers".  It debuted around 1976.  It was first built by Whittaker at the Chesapeake plant only. Purchased in 2004, this is only the second owner.  Always sailed on Lake Michigan.  It has beautiful teak interiors in very good shape, was re-upholstered, and had a new transmission put in in 2010. Sailed actively around Lake Michigan while family had younger children.
