She is the only one known to exist of this year and model. Restoration to Original Specifications by Dan Nelson Nelson Boatworks Higgins Model NOH 26 B 5 Serial #10147 Original Engine - Chrysler Crown 135 HP Serial #18479 Restored by Van Ness Purchased from Daniel Schmitt in the fall of 2005 Kinta, OK. Original owner before Schmitt Family Anderson, Lake Coeur de lane/Iowa. Boat was originally sold by Touristville Boats in Clear Lake, Iowa You are viewing the only Higgins 1948 26 Deluxe Sedan Cruiser known to exist. The number produced of this year and model is obscure because a hurricane wiped out most those records back in 1947 in New Orleans and Katrina struck the final blow. The Andrew J. was found in a barn in Oklahoma back in 2005. Contact was made with award-winning restorer Dan Nelson of Nelson Boatworks to appraise this fine craft and the determination was made to begin restoration in 2006. The Andrew J received Best of Show and Peoples Choice at the Toledo Antique and Classic Boat Show and the grand finale was receiving BEST PRESERVED CRUISER in Table Rock, MO at the Annual International Show hosted by The Antique and Classic Boat Society - ACBS the Grand-Daddy of the Wooden and Classic boat shows. Higgins Inc. was founded in New Orleans by Andrew Jackson Higgins. Higgins Industries is especially famous for their WWII and Korean War efforts in producing military craft for the Marines, Coast Guard and the Navy. Their most notable wartime craft are the famous PT Boats, the LCVP Landing Craft and LCM Craft as exhibited in the movie Saving Private Ryan, while they landed on the beaches of Normandy. The Andrew J's name was sanctioned by Dawn Higgins Murphy, Andrew Jackson Higgins daughter, who still lives down by New Orleans to this day with her husband Bob. There are only about 200 Higgins pleasure boats remaining and a small handful of military craft. The minute you step on to The Andrew J you will see the expert craftsmanship and detail that brought her to the concourse condition she is in. A custom made trailer is included. She rides easily at 60 mph over the road. I pull it with my Ford F150. Go to www.higginsclassicboats.org for more info and history of Higgins Boats and more info regarding The Andrew J.
