The Bertram 38 is one of the best sport fish hull designs ever made. The Cadillac of fishing machines. This boat has been cared for its entire life and it shows. It has been re-fit and updated in almost every possible way over the last 10 years. From engines to exhaust tips, wiring, lighting, outlets, gauges, paint, cabinetry, ceilings, carpet, bedding, The Tower, the list could go on and on and on. A small fortune and many many hours have been spent upgrading this boat in almost every possible way. Pretty much the only thing left from 1965 is a bullet proof hull with the structural integrity of a Sherman tank that rides like a Cadillac in almost any sea condition. Structural integrity –The structural integrity of this boat is beyond comprehension and description in words. The one piece hull is made up of layer upon layer of hand laid heavy thick fiberglass and resin and is probably 3 times stronger than anything you can find today and twice as thick as any hull that has been made in the last 30 years. Looking inside the hull you see results of and the definition of true craftsmanship and the pride that went into building this boat. Something you could never find today at any price. The strength of this hull provides a serious extra measure of safetyin the event you encounter any floating debris like a telephone pole or tree. The keel of this boat could probably withstand a major impact that would crack the hull and sink most other boats. If you properly installed a sharp angled piece of heavy steel on the forward entry point where the hull first hits the water….. you most probably could get the ABS (Amercian Bureau of Shipping) approval to change the boats rating to “ICE BREAKER” class-LOL. They start right up, run great and smoke free. If maintained properly these naturally aspirated engines can last a lifetime. Unlike their turbo counterparts they are not pushed to their limits and beat on to drain every ounce of horsepower at the expense of reliability. The tranny’s shift properly and all controls operate as they should. The running gear is corrosion free. The bronze props, stainless shafts and struts are in excellent shape and vibration free. With 420hp and 880 ft. / lbs. of torque the boat will cruise at 15-16 knots though almost any condition and max out at around 20kts. Wiring: The boat has been completely rewired to perfection using the highest grade marine wiring though out. On the 110 side from the 2 - 30 amp shore power receptacles to the 110 volt breakers, switches, outlets, lights and 30 amp battery charger and everything in between. On the 12 volt side from the battery cables to the 12 volt breaker panel, switches, gauges, pumps and everything in between was all re-done to perfection. The Tower: Constructed by a true old school craftsman and custom made for this boat, it is a work of art. Installed about 5 years ago it is in near immaculate condition. The towers design, structural integrity and how it is perfectly mounted on the boat is mind boggling. The bottom is in amazing shape. It only has a few coats of bottom paint since all the old paint was removed. Topside was recently painted, shines away and is in very nice condition. Thru- hulls: All thru-hulls have been changed and updated about 10 years ago. They are in great shape / open and close freely and are leak free. The Interior: The interior is in amazing shape. Some of the side walls and ceilings of the interior is actually original Bertram gel coat and have a glossy shine like new. The ceilings in each and every room where they are not the original gel coat were redone few years ago using high end marine fabric and trimmed with teak, they are in mint near flawless condition throughout. This year brand new heavyweight Berber carpet was installed throughout the entire boat. The V-Berth bed and 2 twin bed mattresses were also replaced this year with high end custom fit dense temper pedic type foam beds. They are so comfortable you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. All new bedding this year and curtains were replaced as well. A few years ago brand new custom made teak cabinets were installed in the salon that hold the built in fridge, kitchen sink, microwave, 2 burner electric stove, stainless toaster oven and has plenty of additional storage as well. In the salon running the entire starboard side all new matching teak panels were also installed. Fuel System / Range: The boat is currently rigged with a 350 gallon fiberglass fuel tank that is in nice shape and leak and issue free. When the engines were rebuilt all new fuel lines were installed throughout. At a mellow cruise of about 14-15 knots your burning around 6-7 gph a side giving you a range of about 300 miles, coming home with about 20% of fuel. There is room to add up to more 3 tanks if you want to extend the range. The forward cockpit hatch which had the old antiquated generator could easily fit a 175-200 gallon tank or if you wanted to save that spot to re-install a generator you could add Saddle tanks on the outside of each engine gaining about 100-125 gal each, depending on your preference. Comforts: There is a built in 12,000 Btu A/C in the salon that cools the whole boat very nicely and also a 5000btu thru hatch portable unit for the forward cabin if you want A/C with the cabin door closed for privacy. There is a brand new hot water heater and its also equipped with a 100 gallon water tank so you have hot and cold water in the shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks. The head, holding tank and all plumbing lines and pumps in between are only a few years old and function as they should. Storage: Throughout the boat is plenty of storage. You can store 6 rods in ceiling of salon and 6 in forward cabin. The Forward cabin has 2 huge carpeted lockers, 2 dry storage areas under the V berth itself at the foot of the bed and under the bed itself. There is also an additional closet in the hall. The second cabin which contains 2 beds has a closet, a huge built in shelved storage area by the lower bunk and a built in night table with plenty of draw space as well. The bathroom has a very large 2 shelved storage area above the sink and plenty of storage below the built in sink set up as well. Lighting: Throughout the boat there is a mix of 12 volt and 110 lighting in each cabin area. All running, cabin and spreader lights operate as they should. You can spin her on a dime. This is because the chines are above the water where they won’t dig in. In high speed turns, her outside chine rises well clear of the water where it won’t catch and trip, while her longitudinal steps stop side slips. LESS ROLL – In a Beam sea, the boat is very stable because the V sections develop a strong righting action. Longitudinal steps act as bilge keels which dampen roll. The boat also sits proportionally deeper and is less disturbed by surface waves. Steers easy in following Sea –Because the Bertram has neither flat sections aft nor a sharp forefoot she performs very well steering in following seas at high or low speeds or trying to get in the inlet on a bad day. Unlike the flat aft sections of many conventional hulls that will pitch forward, yaw or even broach in bad weather. Softer ride –Due to the hull design not having an aft planning surface to jolt and jar the boat, the boat will ride more easily through rough seas and be able to cruise comfortably at considerable higher speeds than conventional boats of the same size. Drier Ride– The Bertram’s longitudinal steps throw water out low and flat where it won’t blow back aboard. Ideally designed for inland waterways as well as rough seas, and like all boats, the 243cc uses the patented RAMCAP construction process to create an unsinkable family fishing boat for the safest experience on the water. This boat has had every service done and has been detailed regularly. A 2007 Honda 225hp 4-stroke engine runs like a charm, is very fuel-efficient, and rides great even in bigger seas. Top speed is about 39 mph; at 4,000 rpm with two people and half fuel, speed is about 27 mph and consumption is about 8.5 gph. General Specs: Draft: 16" Fuel capacity: 80 gal. Beam: 8'2" Weight (est.): 3,500lbs. (w/o engine) Fishing amenities abound, including an aft 36-gallon live well, a 75-gallon in-floor fish box, port and starboard tackle lockers and customized with a total of 27 rod holders (details below)! The ergonomic center console features the industry's first adjustable sliding windshield. The unique Plexiglas windshield slides up and down and locks in any position. The hardtop with color-matched underside features red LED lights, white spreader lights, built-in speakers, electronics boxes, four rocket launchers along the top's aft edge, six openings to accommodate rod tips, and three rod holders mounted at waist level on each side of the console. The trailer was completely overhauled in 2015 and new brakes were added. CUSTOMIZATIONS ADDED: Rod holders are everywhere on this boat, 27 in total, 11 added in 2010. The 18-foot Rupp fixed-pole outriggers were replaced with Rupp 15-foot extendable/collapsible riggers in 2010 for easier storage. Stock speakers replaced with top of the line JL custom speakers throughout in 2010, two directly overhead in hardtop, two forward facing in electronics box overhead for a total of four. Aquatics stereo includes remote control and iPod/iPhone jack. Simrad AP24 autopilot was added in 2010: saves gas by going straight to where you want. It’s like having an extra person in the boat and absolutely great for trolling. At the end of the day put the GPS Crosshairs on the Inlet and hit “go to” and let the autopilot drive you there. Just sit back and relax. A second Digital Furuno FCV-620 Sounder that has a Thru Hull Transducer was added in 2010. So, there are two sounders (fishfinders), one overhead and the Furuno GP-7000 GPS unit at the console. The layout of all the electronics was planned in 2010 so that the Furuno GPS/Sounder and the autopilot are directly next to each other down low on the center console and the overhead box was customized with the aquatics stereo and the Furuno Digital Sounder so you can easily see the sounder from the back of the boat overhead. Also included above your head is a VHF radio. 12-volt electrical outlets added under each gunwale for electric kite reels or deep drop electrical reels if you desire that style of fishing. A Keep Alive Air Bubbler System was added in addition to the Live Well Pump. This Keep Alive system circulates micro fine bubbles into the baitwell to keep extra bait alive for long periods of time. The three toggle switches at the console can be set to just the regular bait well pump or both the regular livewell pump and KeepAlive Air Bubbler System combined at once when you have a lot of bait in the well. Ten-gallon fresh water hose wash down as well as a raw water hose was added. A removeable bait tackle station was added that can be removed with sea suckers. Two Birdsall marine custom safety gaff holders were installed under the gunwales, one for a larger gaff and one for a smaller gaff. Stainless steel gas shocks were installed in all compartments doors so they close easier and slower so as to protect children from getting their fingers jammed. LED green and red navigation lights were installed in 2011 up under the hard top on the sides of the electronics box so your navigation lights never get wet and are easily visible. While there may be other NONSUCH 30's for sale on the market, this boat is extremely unique for two specific reasons: 1) Most of these boats were heavily cruised or raced; "SOPHISTI-KAT" was never cruised and was never raced. The Shower Salon and Head Areas are separated by a Shower Curtain. There is a teak seat and storage area within the Shower Salon. The Head area contains a Counter that includes a Stainless Steel Sink. Under the sink is storage space and access to the Bronze thru hull fittings. I have changed the engine and outdrive oil with mercruiser synthetic oil this year when it was taken out of winter storage about one month ago. It has a low 165 hours on the factory installed hour meter. Let me just say I have owned Cobalt Four Winns and this one and have rode in pretty much every top of the line boat made. I can honestly say this is the nicest riding best looking good sounding 21 foot boat you are going to find, Period. Its the best deal on the internet for the price and just one ride in this baby will kick start your heart like a Montley Crew concert at your local walmart parking lot. It has all options that these boats were avaliable with. I will try to name them all but I know I will forget some of them. It has an upgraded 300hp 350Mag engine with an alpha 1 outdrive and a new custom prop to match the boats driveline that offers excellent holeshot for towing wakeboards and fuel economy while still hitting a top speed of above 50mph. The capitans call exhaust makes sure your heard as well as seen. The stereo is a Sony marine unit that has a cd player and an auxillary ipod input. It also haS a USB port for jump drives to be linked so all your favorite downloaded songs can be brought along. The speakers and amp system itself is a force to be wreckoned with as the 4 Memphis Marine 6.5" speakers try to drown out the bass that comes from the custom ported box that houses a 12" woofer. The sub literally shakes the boat as its pounding out your favorite tunes that can be clearly heard for at least a hundred yards or so even with the capitans call exhaust singing at full song. Both wakeboarders and passengers alike will enjoy the factory Crownline wakeboard tower with a heavy duty black fabric bimini top with a stainless frame that makes a day in the sun bearable. The sun deck is great for laying out and has a tilt up headrest that also folds up to allow access to the cabin without those pesky little shoes stepping on the cushions. The swim deck with heavy duty stainless boarding ladder makes getting on and off the boat both in and out of the water a breeze. The rear bench seat is wide and big enough for 4 adults to sit comfortably and the lower part of the seats pull out to let the backs lay down for a second more private sun deck option. The bow is plenty big enough for the girls to lay out with feet propped up while crusing or pulling whomever dares to grab the tow rope behind. The cabin lights offer plenty of light for gathering up towels and shoes when making way to the dock after dark. The docking lights help trailer the boat after dark. The dual axle trailer has surge operated disk brakes to bring it to a stop quickly and safely. I will gladly answer any ?'s for serious buyers. This Sea Ray 350 Express Bridge is quite possibly the best design and flooplan I've ever seen. This boat lives like a 45 foot boat, with HUGE open spaces throughout. The boat is one of the most innovative designs, with the fiberglass stairs leading up to the flybridge instead of ladders. The unique center stairs down from the bridge to the bow deck allow for a cabin that spans the full width of the boat. Most boats have walkways along each side, cutting into precious cabin space. The rear deck boasts enough space for a pair of chaise lounges, patio table and chairs or whatever your heart desires. The Flybridge has lounge space built in to encourage friends to enjoy the magnificent vantage point from up high. You don't have to be a fisherman to enjoy the safer and improved view of the water from above. Mood lighting is incorporated into the radar arch, allowing festivities to carry into the night. The cabin has sleeping space for 6 comfortably. The two giant circular couches each fill in to sleep two The cabin has a tall ceiling that enables 6'4" friends to walk without crouching down. The galley is immaculate and very functional. The bathroom has a shower and nice sized vanity. There are sotrage compartments throughout every room, enabling you to keep the space neat and tidy when guests come over. The entire rear deck is made up of access points to the engine room. The engine room has two freshwater cooled Bluewater 454 V8 engines. They each have under 750 hours on them and have ONLY been used in fresh water. The boat has updated and spohistiated electronics including a Lowrance GPS Map with current software. This unti comes with the boat at the Buy Now price. We also just commmissioned a canvas shop to create a new custom camper enclosure in white Sunbrella fabric with new Eisenglass. The tan one is still in good shape and is original. You can have both, a value of THOUSANDS! The vynil on the flybridge is really the only "to do" item. The boat has recently undergone a full maintenance including new belts, hoses, fittings and new stuffing boxes. The mechanic improved the origninal design to enable easier access. The boat has a new Battery charger and fresh batteries. The boat is capable of over 30 MPH by GPS and the inboard engines draw very little water. The 11.5 foot beam means you will own the water. Boats passing will feel your wake, but your martini will seldom be disturbed. This boat was my personal boat and is in truly bristol condition. The Cadillac of fishing machines. This boat has been cared for its entire life and it shows. It has been re-fit and updated in almost every possible way over the last 10 years. From engines to exhaust tips, wiring, lighting, outlets, gauges, paint, cabinetry, ceilings, carpet, bedding, The Tower, the list could go on and on and on. A small fortune and many many hours have been spent upgrading this boat in almost every possible way. Pretty much the only thing left from 1965 is a bullet proof hull with the structural integrity of a Sherman tank that rides like a Cadillac in almost any sea condition. Structural integrity –The structural integrity of this boat is beyond comprehension and description in words. The one piece hull is made up of layer upon layer of hand laid heavy thick fiberglass and resin and is probably 3 times stronger than anything you can find today and twice as thick as any hull that has been made in the last 30 years. Looking inside the hull you see results of and the definition of true craftsmanship and the pride that went into building this boat. Something you could never find today at any price. The strength of this hull provides a serious extra measure of safetyin the event you encounter any floating debris like a telephone pole or tree. The keel of this boat could probably withstand a major impact that would crack the hull and sink most other boats. If you properly installed a sharp angled piece of heavy steel on the forward entry point where the hull first hits the water….. you most probably could get the ABS (Amercian Bureau of Shipping) approval to change the boats rating to “ICE BREAKER” class-LOL. They start right up, run great and smoke free. If maintained properly these naturally aspirated engines can last a lifetime. Unlike their turbo counterparts they are not pushed to their limits and beat on to drain every ounce of horsepower at the expense of reliability. The tranny’s shift properly and all controls operate as they should. The running gear is corrosion free. The bronze props, stainless shafts and struts are in excellent shape and vibration free. With 420hp and 880 ft. / lbs. of torque the boat will cruise at 15-16 knots though almost any condition and max out at around 20kts. Wiring: The boat has been completely rewired to perfection using the highest grade marine wiring though out. On the 110 side from the 2 - 30 amp shore power receptacles to the 110 volt breakers, switches, outlets, lights and 30 amp battery charger and everything in between. On the 12 volt side from the battery cables to the 12 volt breaker panel, switches, gauges, pumps and everything in between was all re-done to perfection. The Tower: NOT INCLUDED IN THE 25K AUCTION PRICEConstructed by a true old school craftsman and custom made for this boat, it is a work of art. Installed about 5 years ago it is in near immaculate condition. The towers design, structural integrity and how it is perfectly mounted on the boat is mind boggling. The bottom is in amazing shape. It only has a few coats of bottom paint since all the old paint was removed. Topside was recently painted, shines away and is in very nice condition. Thru- hulls: All thru-hulls have been changed and updated about 10 years ago. They are in great shape / open and close freely and are leak free. The Interior: The interior is in amazing shape. Some of the side walls and ceilings of the interior is actually original Bertram gel coat and have a glossy shine like new. The ceilings in each and every room where they are not the original gel coat were redone few years ago using high end marine fabric and trimmed with teak, they are in mint near flawless condition throughout. This year brand new heavyweight Berber carpet was installed throughout the entire boat. The V-Berth bed and 2 twin bed mattresses were also replaced this year with high end custom fit dense temper pedic type foam beds. They are so comfortable you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. All new bedding this year and curtains were replaced as well. A few years ago brand new custom made teak cabinets were installed in the salon that hold the built in fridge, kitchen sink, microwave, 2 burner electric stove, stainless toaster oven and has plenty of additional storage as well. In the salon running the entire starboard side all new matching teak panels were also installed. Fuel System / Range: The boat is currently rigged with a 350 gallon fiberglass fuel tank that is in nice shape and leak and issue free. When the engines were rebuilt all new fuel lines were installed throughout. At a mellow cruise of about 14-15 knots your burning around 6-7 gph a side giving you a range of about 300 miles, coming home with about 20% of fuel. There is room to add up to more 3 tanks if you want to extend the range. The forward cockpit hatch which had the old antiquated generator could easily fit a 175-200 gallon tank or if you wanted to save that spot to re-install a generator you could add Saddle tanks on the outside of each engine gaining about 100-125 gal each, depending on your preference. Comforts: There is a built in 12,000 Btu A/C in the salon that cools the whole boat very nicely and also a 5000btu thru hatch portable unit for the forward cabin if you want A/C with the cabin door closed for privacy. There is a brand new hot water heater and its also equipped with a 100 gallon water tank so you have hot and cold water in the shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks. The head, holding tank and all plumbing lines and pumps in between are only a few years old and function as they should. Storage: Throughout the boat is plenty of storage. You can store 6 rods in ceiling of salon and 6 in forward cabin. The Forward cabin has 2 huge carpeted lockers, 2 dry storage areas under the V berth itself at the foot of the bed and under the bed itself. There is also an additional closet in the hall. The second cabin which contains 2 beds has a closet, a huge built in shelved storage area by the lower bunk and a built in night table with plenty of draw space as well. The bathroom has a very large 2 shelved storage area above the sink and plenty of storage below the built in sink set up as well. Lighting: Throughout the boat there is a mix of 12 volt and 110 lighting in each cabin area. All running, cabin and spreader lights operate as they should. You can spin her on a dime. This is because the chines are above the water where they won’t dig in. In high speed turns, her outside chine rises well clear of the water where it won’t catch and trip, while her longitudinal steps stop side slips. LESS ROLL – In a Beam sea, the boat is very stable because the V sections develop a strong righting action. Longitudinal steps act as bilge keels which dampen roll. The boat also sits proportionally deeper and is less disturbed by surface waves. Steers easy in following Sea –Because the Bertram has neither flat sections aft nor a sharp forefoot she performs very well steering in following seas at high or low speeds or trying to get in the inlet on a bad day. Unlike the flat aft sections of many conventional hulls that will pitch forward, yaw or even broach in bad weather. Softer ride –Due to the hull design not having an aft planning surface to jolt and jar the boat, the boat will ride more easily through rough seas and be able to cruise comfortably at considerable higher speeds than conventional boats of the same size. Drier Ride– The Bertram’s longitudinal steps throw water out low and flat where it won’t blow back aboard.
