I will be happy to answer questions. I can get you on the boat as well. email: jdardozzi-at- livingstructure-dot-org History: RAN is a riveted-steel yawl built in Danzig, Germany in roughly 1924 as an ocean cadet trainer for the German navy. It was purchased by us from Soren Goetz of Denmark after a 10 year circumnavigation. Soren bought it from the Swedish government, who had been the owners of the vessel since it arrived in Sweden in the 1960's following a refit by Communist Party officials who used it to defect from Poland. The Swedish government had used the vessel in a correctional program for addicts where they took them blue water sailing for extensive periods of time. Soren was the captain of the vessel during this time. When the government decommissioned the boat, he purchased it. He refit the boat in the late 1980's and circumnavigated until the late 90's The designer of RAN is unknown, although I did attempt to research designers of the period and did make contact with several European boat owners of vintage riveted-steel hulls of the period that looked very close in lines. Records were destroyed/lost as a result of WWII and so the chances of knowing the exact details are probably impossible Present Condition & Location Present location is on the hard in the Charleston Shipyard in Charleston, OR. The shipyard is a great place to work (a lot of DIYers) but the weather can be tough at times. Services in the yard are excellent for steel, SS, aluminum, wood and diesel engine work. Rent is $200/m. The boat requires the interior woodwork to be completed in a fashion suitable to the new owner. Some interior wood work has been done. Exterior work like locker lids, sail controls, maintenance etc require completion. All the mechanics are in place and functioning. The boat can be placed in the water now with just new bottom paint. Zincs are new. I just returned from the boat this September and she remains dry and in good condition.
