You are bidding on a 1951 Hallet 48 Hydroplane. Selling due to relocation out of state. This Vintage race boat is absolutely beautiful. It is professionally restored and rebuilt with a deck-off restoration. True 3-point hydroplane. It has a 100 HP modified Crosley with big throat Stromberg 97 carb. Motor has fresh rebuild and has not been raced since rebuild. The boat sits on an original restored Crosley trailer. The boat has natural Mahogany decks and runs on alcohol. History, documents and photos also come with it. This amazing vintage hydroplane is turn-key and is ready for the APBA vintage circuit. When boat was raced by Jim Sharde in the 1960s, it was converted to alcohol with a twin Amal carburetor manifold and was converted later to a “Big Throat” Stromberg 97 carb. When it was outfitted with the Amal carbs, the boat was clocked at 108 MPH and averaged 88 MPH in oval track races. The motors that were being installed in this hull class being the 44 inch Crosley motor from the Crosley car. The motor was modified and used with either multi-carburetors of fuel injection setup. No superchargers allowed. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, other motors were tried, including motorcycle engines. By the late 1960’s and early 1970’s the dominant engine was the Sunbeam 4 cylinder car motor. This motor was still winning races in 1994.
