angelrode Store RARE FIND The old tourist attraction, the glass-bottom boat, emerges styled for today. An 8' dinghy with teak wood frame and clear Lexan planking. It's 44" wide, weighs approximately 88 lbs. and can carry 2 people. The perfect yacht tender for underwater exploration or just plain family fun. Meet the marine life and stay dry. This teak wood and lexan dinghy boat "YOT-TOY" was handcrafted by a gentleman out of Macon, GA. between 1997 and 1999. He was the owner of a boat company and made these as a hobby. He passed away in 1999. There are NO more being made. You might not ever see another one like it so don't let this RARE find get away! Coast Guard Approved I did not put this boat in the water to test that it floats. It was originally sold as an authentic boat. It is in very good condition. No holes, cracks, etc. Please SEE ALL PHOTOS closely for condition specifics as they are a HUGE part of the item description. Please examine all photos to assess your own opinion of condition. BOAT OWNER'S NOTES for 2013 Handcrafted Rangeley in NEW condition.OVERVIEW:This is a 17’ Rangeley Boat handcrafted by me from a set of plans and completed in late 2013 after approximately 200 hours of enjoyable labor, Shortly after I finished building the boat I was injured in a fall and was subsequently no longer able to safely enjoy the use of the boat. BOAT HISTORY “The Rangeley Boat is a distinctive American sporting boat that has been in use on the Rangeley Lakes of Maine for over 100 years, and was well known to past generations of fishermen for its numerous excellent characteristics,” In the 1900s it was in common use by fishermen on the Belgrade Lakes, on Sebago Lake, and on other lakes in Maine.FEATURES: The original Rangeley boats were cedar lapstreak construction with ribs on the inside. This version was designed by the Newfound Woodworks, Bristol New Hampshire, and is made from cedar strips with epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth on the inside and outside, providing strength and protection, The Rangeley is light and fast and is suitable for row trolling or for use with a trolling motor. The fishing fly on the transom of my boat was hand carved by a local artist making this boat truly unique, a one of a kind.FINAL NOTES: Whether you choose to row around your favorite body of water for exercise and relaxation or use it to seek out your trophy size fish, you will certainly enjoy this boat for years to come, Others will also enjoy a piece of artistic sporting nostalgia as you come into their view.A set of Shaw & Tenney spruce spoon blade oars with sewn on leather and mahogany inlaid tips comes with this boat. This company has been making these oars since 1858. Two pair of hand cast outrigger bronze oar brackets are located on the gunwales of the boat to receive the oar locks and oars. TRAILER: A new aluminum Trail-Ex trailer is also included. Boat is light weight and strong with a cedar core and fiberglass layers on the inside and outside. The fishing fly on the transom was hand carved by an artist making this boat truly unique. The Rangeley was originally designed in the late 1800's for use on the large north eastern lakes where boats had to be very seaworthy to withstand sudden and unexpected storms. New spruce spoon blade oars and a new Trailex alum. trailer are included.

The boat weights approx. 65lbs. and can safely and efficiently transport 500 lbs. The Guideboat was a major evolutionary step in remote water travel through the mountains for both exploration and commerce beginning in the late 1820's and reaching its' peak between 1880 and 1900. It provided safe stable transport for the guide, his needed supplies and the client hunter or fisherman while remaining a craft easily managed by one man for portage from one body of water to the next. While the dimensions of my boats are very similar to those developed by H.D.Grant, considered the preeminent guideboat builder of the day, the construction technique is very different in a strip build craft. In strip building the wooden "core" of the hull is laid up over forms then fiber glassed both the interior and exterior. This fiberglass becomes transparent when epoxied. This method and eliminates the need for interior ribs and floor planks and results in making the boat a bit easier to move about in and much easier to keep clean. there are two ribs amidships to provide support for the center seat All major components are crafted on site from lumber I personally select for quality and character. In this boat Western Red Cedar was used for the hull, Ash for the gunwales and interior stems, Cherry for the seat frames and decks and Spruce for the coamings, exterior stems and accent pieces.
