2008 Great Lakes Boat Building School Atkin This 11' Gaff Rigged Cat Boat was built by the Great Lakes Boat Building School in 2008 and donated to the Little Traverse Sailors. This boat has only been rigged and sailed once. Built from drawings dated May 1954 by Atkin & Co. Yacht Designers in Darien, CT. The hull is constructed with White Cedar, the mast, boom and gaff are constructed with Sitka Spruce. The transom, stem, cleats, and rudder cheeks are Oak. The rails and tiller are Ash, the bottom of the centerboard trunk is Philippine Mahogany. The top of the centerboard trunk is made with Sapele (a kind of Mahogany), and the inside rails, seat centers and oars are constructed with Fir. The wood is treated with a mixture of Linseed Oil, Pine Tar and Turpentine. Row it, sail it, or simply adore it. She includes a Shoreland'r SLB7-14 trailer. The seller, Little Traverse Sailors is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based out of Harbor Springs, MI. The mission of LTS is to encourage junior sailors to experience the joy of sailing in a safe, fun, learning environment. All proceeds from the sale of this boat will benefit LTS and their mission.

This is not a REPO or abused boat! Great family boat that handles Lake Erie beautifully and takes my family and I on several trips around the lake every year. I have had this boat for several seasons and it has never left me down. It has a great layout and accommodates families or couples with ease. The straight drives and wide beam make for an easy to service and low maintenance boat. Also, this layout is makes for a very predictable boat on the open lake or at the dock. Often I take this boat out by myself and can anchor, cruise, and dock without help due to the ease of access around the boat and great handling characteristics. On a recent trip with a fair amount of bad weather I calculated .62MPG while cruising at 22-24MPH (look at the pick of my mileage calculation on a several hundred mile trip). Not bad considering the cost of Gas engine maintenance vs. diesel. I calculate this every trip and find that I run .50 - .75 MPG on average. When I do the math it means I would need to use the boat for more than 100 hours/year for diesel to be cost effective. You should do the math too if you think diesels are more cost efficient. The maintenance will kill you if you aren't putting up big hours. FYI - Great Lakes average is about 30 hours / year. Some General Notes When Comparing to Other Boats: - New Canvas Last Season = $6,000 - Reupholstered Cockpit Seating (In Progress) = $3,000 - All fluids changed / filters etc (always maintained by same mechanic) - Winterized / Shrink Wrapped and Storage Paid in Paved, Gated Marina = $2,500 - Includes Storage Jacks = $900 - Includes Ground Tackle and USCG Kit Complete = $2,000 Sea Ray uses good quality components on their boats. c1920's Vintage Great Lakes Ice Sail Boat * Custom made in the 1920's for Ice Racing on Lake Erie, this fantastic piece of nautical history is a wood body clad in galvanized steel in a superb Industrial design, black and white painted wood plank support with a trio of steel covered wood blades to scoot across the ice and two wood masts (one with a yoke) to hold the sails and catch the wind. The ice yacht is in as found, unrestored, condition with age and wear to the materials, is of solid construction, there are no fabric sails or rigging, the wood steering wheel has damage, the front blade has no bracket or bolts for attaching to the body and the ice boat is being offered as shown, ready for display or restoration....local pick-up only. Hand lay up lamination while using quality marine grade resins, gel coats and fiberglass cloth, coupled with core instead of wood for coring and stringers systems, makes this boat built to last! This 270 has only had one owner since new. It has not been left in the water and was garage kept most of the year. It sits on a 2009 Shorelandr' aluminum tandem axle trailer in outstanding condition. The Goodyear Marathon tires are like new and the bearings have just been greased. This high quality trailer makes this boat easy to tow. The big 7.4 Liter V8 Mercruiser with Bravo 1 and stainless steel propellor, pushes the boat nicely and idles smoothly all day. With a 140 gallon fuel tank, the cruising range is good enough to take you most places, without worrying about refueling. The original interior vinyl is in great condition, along with all the chrome and stainless steel. Keeping it in a garage makes the difference! Last year it had a new custom fisherman's top installed. It is very nice to have on the upcoming fall days. The boat comes with a lowrance gps, a hummingbird depth chart and a VHF radio too. The cuddy cabin is large enough for 2 adults to sleep comfortably. It has a head, which was never used(no funky odors either.) I have 6 cannon down riggers and a planer board mast for the bow if you need equipment. They are not included in the price, and have not been installed on the boat.
