Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser Captain's Report Larson’s 370 Day Cruiser Re-invents on the Water Entertaining By tradition, express cruisers offer cabin formats with a master stateroom forward and a guest stateroom aft, along with a compromised salon sandwiched in between. But after extensive customer surveys, Larson discovered that many owners of express cruisers are looking for greater entertaining space in the cabin. By eliminating the master suite and expanding the salon, Larson is changing the way we look at entertaining. Enjoying your cruise ship’s lounge The interior of the salon boasts a lavish, nautical themed design reminiscent of a cruise ship’s lounge. Stunning wood cabinetry and trim overwhelm your senses with extravagance. A massive circular sofa covered in sumptuous Ultra-suede beckons you and your guests to a game of cards. And a lustrous wood table with inlaid compass rose provides all the space you’ll need for the game or for dinning. It’s also power adjustable for when you want to convert the dinette into a berth. If action is more of your game, then the Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser supplies that too with a 32” flat screen TV, powered by a surround sound stereo and DVD player, perfect for sporting events or movie night. An Entertainer’s Dream The 370’s galley was slightly downsized during the transformation to Day Cruiser status, but still has the all the necessary items needed for extended cruising, including a two-burner cooktop, microwave oven, a deep sink and plenty of storage space. The host and hostess will love the bottle display cabinet and the chilled wine storage unit that can hold over a case of wine. Additionally, Larson installed a full size refrigerator and freezer, ensuring adequate cold storage on board. Complimenting the salon and galley is a luxurious head compartment, featuring European fixtures, a separate shower stall with acrylic door and an impressive vanity that has a glass sink set on a granite countertop. Outdoor Activities The roomy outdoor leisure area supplies generous seating and a granite table top from which to enjoy alfresco dinning. Or you can convert the area into a large sun lounge. Either way, you’ll have quick access to the mini-bar that is located directly to port. The bar offers a sink and snack prep area on the granite counter top, plus generous storage lockers and refrigerator below. Water access is as grand as the rest of the boat. Fitted with two swim platforms, the upper section is molded into the deck and provides access to the transom locker which houses plenty of storage for cords, fenders and lines, in addition to a hot and cold water shower. The lower platform comes as standard equipment and supplies a retractable boarding ladder. Behind the Wheel Overall handling and experience on this boat was compromised by the fact that this was a prototype model. Getting the vessel on plane was easy thanks to a robust pair of MerCruiser 8.1 HO’s. There was a bit of a challenge seeing over the bow, even at cruise speed or wide open throttle, the yacht’s ride attitude was high, forcing a 6’ 5” tall pilot to stand up the entire time in order to see what was ahead. Larson assured me that they are addressing this issue, and that the yacht is still in the developmental stage. On the other hand, the helm is classy and functional. The dash layout is intuitive and simplifies piloting with triple tiers: analog gauges on top, navigation panels and switches in the middle with ships controls on the bottom. A double wide helm seat with a thick, flip-up bolster and power adjustment provides a perfect fit for the captain. I was impressed with Larson’s Day Cruiser concept. The yacht can do it all, cruise, entertain and overnight. The overall fit and finish is top notch, just like all the other Larson product, and the uncompromised roominess of the boat made it one of my favorite tests of the year. Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser Test Result Highlights Top speed for the Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser is 36.7 mph (59.1 kph), burning 63.8 gallons per hour (gph) or 241.48 liters per hour (lph). Best cruise for the Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser is 26.5 mph (42.6 kph), and the boat gets 0.78 miles per gallon (mpg) or 0.33 kilometers per liter (kpl), giving the boat a cruising range of 186 miles (299.34 kilometers). Tested power is 2 x 380-hp MerCruiser 8.1L Horizon.
