***UPDATE MAY 27TH, 2019*** ~ The Decks and Cabin Roof have been repainted with Non-Skid Paint. ~ Much restoration has gone into this beautiful vessel, and she is waiting for her new owner to steward her forward and enjoy her fine sailing characteristics. Stock #042148 Classic San Diego Built Kettenburg known as "Aristocrats of sail" The K-38 is 38' overall but 25'10" at the waterline, 8' beam, 6'2" draft. Sail area 538 square feet. The exquisite beauty of the K38's lines, its ideal size, its incredible feel of balance and speed, its sleek, narrow hull, its meticulous craftsmanship in wood and its silent, easy motion in a seaway combine to make it superior to all other yachts for sailing in Southern California's waters. Designed by Paul Kettenburg, and built at the renowned Kettenburg Boat Works on Shelter Island, Chelsea is the 27th boat of this design built in 1954 of Carvel planked Mahogany. K-38's are still recognized as the "Aristocrats of sail" on the Pacific Coast. Her spruce mast was completely rebuilt in 2000, and is currently in the seller's warehouse. It will be reinstalled on the boat at the time of a sale. The mast currently on the boat belongs to a different K-38. When the mast was rebuilt, it was Totally disassembled, re-glued, re-rabbitted, re-finished with varnish (Not paint) and re-wired at a cost of $10k. A completely new transom was professionally installed along with the aft 3rd of the boat being replanked at the same time. In 2004 the entire boat was gone through, and every rib was examined and sistered where needed. At that time, a custom brace that consists of a custom built rib which goes from the port shear clamp to the starboard shear clamp was installed to give added support to the mast step and floors in the area a around the mast. The turnbuckle transfers stress from the chain plate to a stainless steel "floor" which is bolted to a new oak floor in the bilge. The boat was completely refastened and caulked before paint was applied.

Ok up for sale I am offering this 1947 John Alden 38 Yawl Sailboat We may entertain certain trades for a RV as well or other items of interest Boat is in water at a private slip available to be viewed by appointments You are buying a 69 year old Boat that was well taken care of and is in very nice shape for its ageBoat will need some TLC but nothing major and all mostly cosmetic This boats previous owner owned vessel for 39 years and maintained it very well Boat is 80% original with some upgrades done to it Vessel was brought down from long Island NY about 11 years ago at which time the boat was glassed over Previous owner was a Marina Owner in NY for his entire life and has much experience in doing what he doesMore than 70 gallons of resin were used and boat was wrapped with two layers of cloth down to the boot top. and then 3 layers of 1.1/2 oz mat from there down and wrapping around the bottom of the keel The bottom of Keel has 6 layers and the boat sounds very solid when you tap on itThere are no blisters on hull or signs of de lamination. Boat was hauled and completely stripped and dried well before Glassing over There is lots and lots of character to this magnificent vessel and she gets looks and Awws every where it goes. Boat can use a few cosmetics like Hull and Bottom paint Boat has not been hauled in a five years but has been dived under and cleaned regularly Boat was just dived under a few months ago when we brought it up from KEY West and diver said boat bottom was extremely clean The Masts are due for Varnishing and they can be done on the Boat no need to de mast it if you are not afraid of heights There is a couple of pieces of interior wood that could use replacement bot nothing structural Boat was originally powered by a white flat head gas engine previous owner replaced it with a Mercruiser 140Hp gas engineWe found the engine to have low compression and a Oil Leak so we have just again upgraded and replaced engine Now a Mercruiser 130hp much more modern with under 100 hrs on it and electronic ignition far easier to maintain and get parts for. The top decks have a fresh coat of paint on them and may require another but still look great The exterior wood minus the masts have been varnished the past month with two coats of Captains Varnish and wood looks great We have sealed a couple windows that were leaking including sky light in Head There is a couple of Boards in the head that were rotted and we have removed them dried the area and getting ready to replace. We have replaced the walls in the salon as they are just laminated and were de laminating over years of time. This was done and replaced to look as it did before The main sail was ripped bringing boat up from the Keys its currently out being repaired should have been done a month ago not sure what the deal is with the Sail shop Boat could be driven any where as it is or possibly even sailed the the other two sails till the main is back. The Buy it now price will include the Main fully repaired ready to use or a new replacement.
