View Large Images ? ? Description Built by Ditchburn Boats of Lake Muskoka, Ontario, the 'Malolo' (Flying Fish in Hawaiian), was originally custom built for Casper Erholm of Lake Whatcom, WA in 1927. Ditchburn Boats were known as the Rolls Royce of boats at the time and were considered to be one of the premier speed boat and yacht builders in the world. They also built racing boats, twice winning the Gold Cup and the Harmsworth Trophy once. This fabulous example is thought to be one of only about two-dozen remaining worldwide, with the majority being restored and residing in eastern Canada. Don't miss this opportunity at adding this incredible, extremely rare and highly desired Ditchburn wooden speed boat to your collection. The Malolo was referred to as a 'Gentleman's Racer'. It was exceptionally fast for its day, going 28 miles per hour. It is powered by a Grey Marine four-90 Fireball racing engine and has Dual Carburettors and High Compression. It had to run on aviation fuel at that time. The Malolo's original owner, Casper Erholm, was the son of Charles Erholm, the 'Finnish Laundry King of Bellingham', who founded Pacific Steam Laundry in 1889. In 1921, Erholm's son Casper began his apprenticeship in the family business. One can only imagine the young and entitled playboy cruising in what may have been Lake Whatcom's fastest boat. The Malolo plied the waters of Lake Whatcom from 1927 to 1959, when it suffered hull damage from hitting a dead head. It went into storage and stayed there until 2005, when its stewardship was passed to the passionate master-crafters at Glen Cove Boatworks. The restoration was undertaken by craftsmen Richard Montag, Tom Walton and Terry Buzzard, along with assistance and advice from many others, including historians from the Lake Whatcom Motor Boat Club. With an eye toward keeping this very special and rare watercraft as near to original as possible, the team painstakingly restored 'Malolo'. The result is an absolutely stunning piece of American boat building history that is sure to impress even the snobbiest boaters. The engine refurbishment was entrusted to the legendary Hy Twiford. Hy starting working with his dad at the Cleveland Yacht Club in the family boat repair business, Twiford Marine Services. He had an innate ability to fix anything, especially if it had to do with boats or boat engines. Jim Rowland of Jim's Upholstery hand-crafted the leather seats, Clawson Instruments expertly refurbished the gauges, the electrical system was restored by Ken Benthien. 1989 Harbor Master 450 Coastal Cruiser, The Motor Vessel Piz-ZazzIf I were leaving from Charleston Harbor, S.C. and heading for Portugal, this is not the motor yacht I would choose. But if my intention was to explore the Bahamas and the Caribbean, the Florida Keys, the Gulf of Mexico, the East and West Coasts of North America, the Great Lakes and the river systems of the U.S., then this is exactly the vessel I would choose.Starting from the foundation. The hull was designed by Uniflight, ( builder of the U.S. Navy's famous River Patrol Boats) a Pacific coast builder. The intent was to create a hull capable of traversing the "Inside Passage" to Alaska. A shallow draft was a must, as was the idea for protecting the running gear. With a keel (8" deeper than the running gear) and props set within half-pockets, Uniflight had hit the mark they'd set for their "Coastal Cruiser." The hull is efficient and economical to operate. It features a fine dry entry, a double chine and a modified vee after section. This is the hull Boating Corporation of America (parent company of Harbor Master) chose for their 450 Coastal Cruiser. Along with her above the water line attributes, these were the "things" we sought when we went shopping for a live-aboard yacht.Piz-Zazz has been "ours" for 16 years, and if health issues didn't require it, she would be ours for many more years to come. But life sometimes sets our plans adrift, and so with reluctance we have decided to put her up for sale. What follows are the assets of the boat. The vessel has been in exclusively fresh water since it was new and was moored, during summers, in a covered slip. During winters it was stored on land completely covered by shrink wrap. All systems were drained and winterized and even the batteries were disconnected. If you haven't guessed by now, the vessel is located in a cold-winter location! The boat was built in Washington and trucked to Minnesota, and is now for sale by the original owner. She can be trucked and delivered throughout the US -- contact me for information on shipping. All maintenance was done by the same company so complete records are available. VERY UNUSUAL, VIKING STYLE BOAT Viking style sailboat, 60 x 14 ft - replica of boats which discovered Alaska. This boat is big part of American history. It has repeated the voyage of Vitus Bering across the stormy North Pacific. It has been featured in many movies. This vessel is in a great shape. The owners are artists (look our site www.mpobo.com) and covered as vessel as a real house with the colorful wooden ornaments. She took part in a few Tall Ships Festivals in USA and Canada. It has sailed over 55,000 nm. And still going strong, ready for another 100,000. It has 150 hp Isuzu diesel engine that runs perfect, just 70 hours after rebuild. One ton capacity stainless steel fuel tank, 55 gallons water tank, and 36 gallon waste tank. Full set of sails included. Boat also has a Furuno radar. In one separate cabin it can sleep 2 people, in another 3 cabins there are three double beds 6x5.5 ft. It can sleep 8 people total, great as the houseboat for even for a big family. The vessel has fully equipped galley with the propane stove, grill, fridge and freezer, all cooking pans, skillets etc. There is also a head on board and plenty of room for storage. Brand new solar panel with new deep cycle battery. An inverter gives more than enough power for lights, phones and computer with internet. Also WI-FI modem and working internet. Mounts of pillows, blankets, tools, bumpers, ropes, cables etc. She stays near Key West on a dead, 1500 lbs., hurricane proof anchor, which is sunk in deep in the mud. Good dinghy and outboard motor. Recently we covered our wooden beauty with ferro cement, bottom, sides and deck. Now our vessel is even torpedo proof and has absolutely no leaks! The bilge pumps never turn on! All top cabins are wood and are decorated with carvings. Key West marina slips charge $1,500 to 3,000 monthly. Our expenses on anchor right now is $80 for dinghy dock and $20 for gas for the outboard. 10-15 minutes and you in downtown Key West. And every day you can catch and eat free fish!
