Perhaps the first thing you notice about Regal's 2100 LSR is the Fastrac hull design. And why not? It earned an innovation award at the 1997 National Marine Manufacturers Association trade show in Chicago. If it caught the judges' eyes, it's only natural it should catch yours.A radical departure from conventional runabout hulls, the LSR borrows from offshore racing technology, which uses steps to introduce air underneath the hull, thus reducing drag at speed. Regal went a step further by using inverted strakes and side flow interrupters to maintain that air space even while the boat is turning. It results in V-8 performance from a V-6 engine, according to Regal figures."The hull design is not just a bell or whistle. It really works. It's doing unbelievably well, and the dealers really like it," says Dennis Reis, sales and marketing representative for Regal Marine Industries. "Where our competition has to use a V-8 to get over 50 mph, we can use a V-6."Other benefits buyers may find useful are the marked similarities the LSR has with the automobile. For example, the LSR has right- and left-hand rearview mirrors, taillights for when the boat is in tow, headlights and a custom chopped-top profile.When the boat is in the water, the driver monitors all functions on oversize Faria gauges with red illumination for enhanced visibility while listening to the Kenwood four-speaker AM/FM stereo cassette. The five-position tilt wheel, standard digital depth finder with alarm, compass, defogger vents and drink holder make spending the day behind the wheel a breeze.Passengers moving about the cockpit will like the plush carpeting, thickly upholstered seating areas and drink holders throughout. Portside back-to-back seats fold down to provide seating for four or for one person fully reclined.Other standard features include fore and aft boarding steps, chemical head, floor locker for skis and kneeboards, steps built into the transom for easy boarding, color-matched acrylic convertible and bow tonneau cover, and cockpit lighting. The rear starboard jump seat lifts to convert the engine cover to a fully cushioned sun pad. Buyers can choose from three colors: garnet red, cadet blue or hunter green.
