1956 Sparkman and Stephens Mystic Built by Paul Molich in Denmark, MYSTIC was originally owned by Harold Oldak and sailed on Long Island Sound. Her current owner has kept her in Chicago for 40 years and updated her systems. The diesel engine dates from the 90's and her sails from early 2000's. The solid dodger in the front of the cockpit is original and something current builders could learn from.  The owner reports some wood work to be done in the transom but other than that she is  in sound shape. He has taken very good care of her for many years and thinks it is time to turn her over the helm to a new wooden boat enthusiast who will enjoy her as much as he has.  Survey available per request from 2008

Built in 1962 by a renowned Argentinean boat builder, Astillero Sarmiento, to Sparkman & Stephens Auxiliary/Pilot Sloop plans. The original design #1219 was laid out in 1958 for a Mr. Edward R. Greef. From what I’ve been able to determine, it seems that a young Uruguayan marine architect took these plans to Sarmiento based near Buenos Aires. This boat was commissioned by Juan Perdomo Uzana, a very wealthy businessman to compete in several open ocean races that started from Buenos Aires. She won a number of events including the Buenos Aires to Rio Grande do Sul race in 1963. She even attempted a crossing of Cape Horn but was prevented by abysmal weather and spent six days anchored in the Williams Channel. To research the history of this boat, I contacted the Yacht Club of Argentina. As a result, I received correspondence from Jose Luelmo who owned the boat from 1982 until 1986. He sent me a huge amount of information and history that included the original S&S plans and detailed building instructions. I have owned and sailed INWARD BOUND for twenty years but now need to find a new caretaker. Please check my website www.garymagwood.ca for a complete history, lots of tech details and plenty of photographs. Depending on the buyers location, I'd be quite willing to deliver her. I have over 10,000 ocean miles under my keel!

1969 Cheoy Lee Sparkman & Stephens Sigma 38   Beautifully updated 1969 CheoyLee, Sparkman Stephens Sigma 38.  "The SIGMA "38" is basically a performance boat designed to win and with a layout planned for efficient racing, from her workable navigation nook to her large sail locker in the forepeak. But she is no racing machine alone, with the compromise in comfort that implies. Attention has been paid to cruising comfort and the other details that makes "boat" a "yacht". The lavish use of rubbed teak below lends a richness and warmth below that is usually lacking in a fibreglass boat, and 27 drawers, 15 lockers, and 9 shelves eliminate the stowage problem. A large dining table with bottle locker is standard. The installation of the engine below the cabin sole opens up the area aft usually taken by the engine box, resulting in a unique layout with the most usable room of any 38 footer we know. The quality of the teak joiner work equals that of any builder in the world, placing the SIGMA "38" in the Custom category, but at a stock boat price." "....The SIGMA represents the peak of development of the moderate displacement fin keel/spade rudder concept by Sparkman & Stephens, America's leading Naval Architects. The SIGMA is one of the first fibreglass auxiliaries to incorporate the modifications learned from the INTREPID program: full "skeg" between fin and rudder, which tank testing has shown to greatly stabilize the flow of water in this critial area, reducing resistance from the quarter wave. Adequate rudder control under certain conditions of wind and water has proved to be a real problem in earlier spade rudder designs, especially those with balanced rudder, but the new SIGMA is as stable and fully controllable as more traditional designs. She is available with masthead or 15/16 rig, and the estimated 1967 CCA RATING is 30.5 and 30.0 respectively." New motor, water heater, heat/ Air and electronics in 2002.   New cushions 2015. Bottom paint 2015.   New through hulls 2015.    Specifications Year: 1969   Yacht Type: Cruise Make: Cheoy Lee   Model: Sigma 38 Builder: Cheoy Lee   Designer: Sparkman & Stephens       Material: Fiberglass   Underbody: Fin Keel/Skeg Rudder   Length: 38'-4"   Beam: 10'-4"   Draft: 6'   Sleeps: 6   Heads: 1   Water Capacity: 70 gal.

She is pure hand-laid fiberglass with no core. Approximately 3/4 inch thick. Thicker at the keel and a bit thinner at the deck. She has never had a blister in her life and is a solid hull. Everything about her is built for simplicity, strength and cruising. Heavy stainless steel davits, indestructible windlass, super strong mast and rigging, new cruising 2 reef main and 1 reef mizzen, roller furling genoa and jib, oversized winches and wire rope halyard on the main, solar panels, gel batteries, center cockpit and designed by Sparkman and Stephens in their prime years. She is a solid boat. Interior has forward and aft cabins with private heads, lockers and drawers, a spacious galley and nav station with plenty of head room. She has plenty of storage space, relatively new refrigerator, central heat and air conditioning, water pressure system, has hookups for an electric/engine water heater and is set up for a generator, but I took the old generator out and use the space for a tool locker. (I don't really need a generator with the solar panels). I've lived and cruised on Krasna for 10 years and she has treated me well. I would like to find a good home for her. She is built for cruising, not for a weekend sailor. I just returned from three years in the Caribbean and my cruising grounds were from Maine to the Caribbean. Perkins 108 motor in great shape. She has a full enclosure for under way as well as custom awnings for the entire boat when you are anchored in the islands. CQR 45 with 85 feet of relatively new chain and about 200 feet of rode and the secondary anchor is Fortress with about 80' of chain and 150 feet of rode. She has an Alpha 3000 auto-pilot, an excellent low amperage, strong, dependable and simple auto pilot. The ram is new and is connected directly to the rudder.I am currently doing some prettying up on the boat, painting, touch up varnishing, fixing little things that I never got around to, but wives/girlfriends appreciate the little things, so I'm trying to make her pretty. She is in need of bottom paint and the bimini is old. So if you wanted to save some money and do the jobs yourself I would be open to discounting the price.I've kept her always in solid cruising shape. She is ready to sail to the islands tomorrow (excepting the bottom paint). I would love for her to go to someone who will cruise full time. $42000, 9046712772 Be sure: Get a boat history report|Finance this boat|Get an insurance quote|
