John and Diane Sweetman email: [email removed] phone: 206-617-2217/2226 History: The L-36 was designed by Bill Lapworth in the 1950’s as a boat that could handle both bluewater racing/sailing and family cruising. This rare boat marks the end of the production wooden boat era. The last wooden hulls were built in the early 1960’s when the L-36 became the predecessor for the very successful Cal-40 series of racing/cruising sailboats. Seafeather is listed on the L-36 directory as hull number 27 (formerly Sealark) built in 1962 at Taylor Boatyard in Vancouver, BC, Canada although other records indicate that she was built at Chapman and Kalijean Boat Builders in Newport Beach, CA. Her records indicate that she won the Transpac race once and the Newport to Ensenada race twice.
