This rare 220 is in excellent condition top to bottom and it shows. It is loaded up with factory options as well as some custom options that you will not see on another Cobalt 220 anywhere. I have included 50+ pictures all taken this past weekend on Lake Michigan. You will have to double scroll at the right to see all the pictures or it will cut off. This Cobalt is a true cross between Luxury and Performance with seating capacity for 11. It is equipped with the upgraded 5.7L Volov Penta Gxi 325hp motor ($5925 upgrade) and a VolvoPenta DuoProp setup. (Dual Stainless Steel Propellers). Overall it is 24' long with the extended swim platform. ($2482 option) The Beam is 8'6" Sitting on the trailer the total length is 27' 3" This Cobalt has very low hours at 257 and it shows throughout. We are the second owners of this gorgeous freshwater boat. We have taken excellent care of this boat, wiping is down each time out of the water. Since owning, it has always been garage kept and stored in an indoor heated facility during the winter months. It has been professionally winterized/summerized each season. Fluids, impeller, battery and trailer tires were all done late this spring. The interior shows near-new and the gel shines like day one. There is zero oxidation on this boat. The sides are like mirrors. This 220 performs like no other boat I have owned. It navigates choppy waters like Lake Michigan with ease, tracks precisely at any speed and has the power and torque to pull multiple wakeboarders/skiers/tubers out of the water effortlessly. With the upgraded 5.7L 325 hp engine it will run to 55+ MPH in strong fashion. This 220 is also equipped with a Factory Cobalt Stainless Sunbrella Bimini Top- See Pics. ($1508 option). It also has the gorgeous Stainless Steel Docking Lights option. ($1080 upgrade). This 220 also has some custom add on options you will not find on another 220. It has all-custom made Faux Teak padding on the ENTIRE rear deck, extended-swim platform, rear step, wet locker, walkthrough, and step-in on the boat. It was custom made, cut and installed with custom Cobalt logo designed into the swim platform. It is stain resistant and soft as cotton. It is an anti-slip surface and grips bare feet/shoes when wet. It is great to lay-on, eliminates slipping and looks amazing. This is the same decking you will find on brand new high end large vessels and yachts. This was a $1600 custom add on that was done this past Season.. See pictures below. This 220 also has a pair of underwater Blue LED Puck lights below the rear extended swim platform. This makes for an AMAZING glowing pool for night swimming and a beautiful glowing afterburner effect when cruising. ($1000 upgrade). They were just added this past season. Brandon De Natale The Mediterranee 50 is built in one of the most industrialized boatyards in the world, and it is evident when onboard that attention to detail and superior old world craftsmanship have gone into building this boat. The 50 is an Italian cruiser with all the comforts and amenities you would expect on a 60 + foot yacht. Only a few of these exquisite vessels are shipped to the United States every year and I was lucky enough to test one thanks to Abruzese Yacht Sales in Yonkers, New York. The design of this European vessel is a breath of fresh air. Most state side built boats in the same range I find bulky or outdated. And most look the same and don’t have a character that is all their own. Not only does the Mediterranean’ 50 have sleek sexy lines and eye catching performance; it also delivers everything you could possibly need in an extended range cruiser. There are so many thoughtful and innovative features onboard that it took us a full day to shoot video of everything we thought was worthy of mentioning. Power This boat is so well laid out that it is perfect for a large family that wants a comfortable and fast cruiser to take them out to their favorite destinations and back over the course of the weekend. With her three staterooms and two-head setup you can do just that… and do it in style. One of the major contributing factors to the fast ride and extremely generous range are the twin 715-hp Volvo Penta D12 EDC engines. These are placed well forward and very low and together in the boat, leading to excellent performance and stability. There’s great access to the engines from two openings in the cockpit sole. I was frankly amazed with all the space aft of the engines where the steering hook-up and generator are located. There is also great access to the rudderposts and steering cables through the opening in the floor of the garage deck all the way aft. This provides great ventilation and comfort when working below. The use of sound deadening materials is evident in the quiet ride experienced when at speeds. We measured a steady 77 on the dBa meter for most of the range and got the highest reading of 83 at full throttle. The other contributing factor to the smooth ride and great performance is the well-designed hull. The hull of the Mediterranee’ 50 sports a deep-V in the bow with hard chines that cut down on spray. Further aft there are flat sections that help to stabilize the ride while the propellers are also housed in Prop pockets. All of this factors in for a uniquely smooth and stabile vessel that can take plenty of seas while still providing you with the best that luxury has to offer. Topside Layout The layout on deck is open and practical. I love the simplistic nature of European design and this boat speaks style and functionality. Back aft we find a large swim platform that makes getting onboard from the dock or tender easy. The boat also features a hydraulic passerelle, which features one button operation and is lighted for nighttime use. And when it comes to docking the Mediterranee’ 50 convenient features such as stern winches and a unique helm design allow the driver to quickly tend to lines when docking. This boat might be large but with all of the great features it’s a breeze to handle with two people. Located further aft is the garage where you can store a large inflatable or jet boat. It features convenient rollers and an electric winch to help retrieve the boat built into the bulkhead. The top of the garage also pulls double duty as a large sun pad for lounging. The Cockpit To port in the cockpit is a wet bar and electric grill. At first I wasn’t excited with an electric grill but after remembering how great that little grill I have at home is I started thinking how nice it would be to not have to worry about turning the propane on every time I wanted to cook. There is also a fridge and storage rack located just underneath the wet bar. Seating and Helm Over to starboard is a C-shaped seating arrangement and table, which comfortably seat six or seven adults. Forward of this area is the helm which is set up to accommodate four people. This is great for keeping everyone together and in the action while underway. To port there is a seat, which accommodates two. You will also find cup holders and plenty of dashboard storage. Over to starboard the two helm chairs are comfortable and are electronically controlled for the best possible line of site. They also feature a flip up bolster to make it comfortable when standing. Another great feature is the step that is located behind these two seats that when separated provides a quick way to get out on the side decks to tend lines when docking. The helm is well designed with good space for mounting additional gear. The Volvo controls are smooth, and the custom wood and leather Nardi steering wheel add a nice touch. The walkway up to the bow is wide and makes for easy passage. The railings are large stainless steel and provide great support. Also, the windshield features a wide large cap on top, which acts as a railing when moving forward. Up here there’s another large sun pad and wide open deck. You will also find a large anchor locker, windlass, fender storage and heavy-duty hardware throughout. Below Deck An aluminum sliding door provides the entrance to the cabin. Once below beautifully crafted American cherry cabinets and wall panels surround you. The door handles are covered in leather and the layout for the three staterooms and two heads creates a wide-open feel. As you enter the cabin you will find the two staterooms to port and starboard, one with two twins and the other with a full. Each provides plenty of storage and have large hanging lockers. Attached to the cabin and the port stateroom is the day-head which features an electric toilet and loads of cabinet space. One of the neat little features I found was the showerhead, which is built into the ceiling providing great coverage. GalleyThe galley is just to starboard and features loads of storage, Corian countertops and provides access to the ship’s electrical panel. Over to port is a U-shaped settee, which will seat five to six for meals, with the additional bench stools that are provided. Master Stateroom Just forward is the master stateroom with a double queen-sized bed and private head with shower. The cabin features beautiful woodwork around the berth and the cabin walls. There are two large hanging lockers with shelves, two portholes for fresh air, and a stereo with CD player for relaxation. Performance and Handling The seas were pretty flat when we took the 50 out for our test ride. She had a full tank of fuel and ¾ tank of water on board. We got her up to 40 mph and I’m sure she would push close to 45 with less weight aboard. The Volvo D12 engines provided smooth acceleration and excellent performance. This is truly a great weekend cruiser for the family. It can also be a great-extended cruiser for smaller couples, and affords plenty of storage for all of your gear and toys. The hull provided a solid ride and with the unique hull design you’re sure to feel safe and secure when traveling in seas. While the cruiser market here in the states is a little old fashioned, the unconventional lines and traditional quality Italian craftsmanship is a welcome import that is sure to find its way into your family. This 240 is equipped with a FACTORY COBALT STAINLESS Wakeboard Tower Package, including a Black Sunbrella WakeTower Bimini Top. ($8050 option). It also has an optional dual wakeboard rack in the rear lower compartment and a watersports rear view mirror. ($395 option). This 240 also has the gorgeous Stainless Steel Docking Lights. On acceleration, the bow comes up approximately 12-degrees, but there was no loss of forward visibility. Once on plane, just a minor trim adjustment and she settles into her proper cruising attitude and moves along quite gracefully. Her 21-degree deadrise at the transom provided us with a stable, comfortable ride and the 7 layers of mat, roving and chopped strand in her hull lamination contributes to the solid feel of this boat. Even with 380 horses in her engine room, at no time did we feel that the boat was out of control or that there was too much power for the boat. Because of her high freeboard and displacement, in addition to her 29', the CSS 298 Bow Rider is definitely appropriate for saltwater sportboat use. She leans 12-degrees into the turns and was fully under control at all times, even during hard over turns at high speed. Stem to Stern InspectionThe manufacturer offers a couple of design options and several optional colors for the boat. She can be built in the classic, standard white, or full hull gel coat color with stripe accent styling. Our test boat had a jet black hull with white accent styling. The white accent takes the place of a traditional cove stripe, and makes the boat look low and sleek despite a robust freeboard. When looking down the hull of this boat, note the style lines molded into the side of the boat and how they add depth and character to the overall look of the vessel. Cruisers Yachts has also added some other unique design features to the boat. For example, the air vents for the engine room are completely hidden by clever cowling on both the starboard and port side of the hull. It is mounted high to keep spray out of the engine room, something particularly important in saltwater. Check out the stylish raised fins at the deck in front of the windshield. Definitely a unique design element to add some flare to this area. The Cruisers Sport Series 298 Bow Rider has an inventive way to conceal the engine room air vents and make it look good in the process.The builder installed an aluminum sport arch on our test boat, with tow point and a Bimini top to add to the boats aggressive profile. The beefy tower is billet aluminum and the tower can be easily disconnected from its mounting bracket and folded down for trailering. At the bowthe horn is flush mounted at the top rail and the pop up cleats drop down flush with the top rail for a nice clean look. The forward bow compartment houses a 4-step stainless steel telescoping boarding ladder that deploys on the starboard side. Note the cut outs in the top rail to accommodate the beach boarding ladder as it deploys and to lock it into place. The deep seated chaise lounge on the 298 Bow Rider has a comfortable, form-fitting dip in the seating portion of the chaise lounge. This allows for a deep seating position and keeps the passenger safely tucked away. The interiorwas elegantly upholstered by Cruiser Yachts own craftsmen in the Latte color scheme and accented tones throughout the boat.The deep bow seating is contoured for the human body making it exceedingly comfortable and secure. A rounded foot well area measuring 27.5” (69.85 cm) provides plenty of room for people to sit, facing each other and not bang knees.Under the forward seat is an integral cooler which self-drains overboard. In this way the folks in the bow have easy access to cool beverages without having to move aft.We also observed the "hide-a-weld" finish detail under the seat cushions. This is a high-end finish covering the stainless steel staples used to hold the upholstery. Magnets are fastened to the bottom of the forward cushion to keep it from sliding off or flying away while underway. The hole by the magnet is to drain the cushion. The walkthroughopening between the windshields is a comfortable 20.5” (52.07 cm) wide. The head is located on the starboard side in the console in front of the companion seat. The latching head door extends to the overhead to make it easier to enter and exit. There is full sitting headroom in the optional Porta-Potti.The head is equipped with a solid surface countertop, sink and faucet wand that extends out for rinsing off. There is also an operational portlight for ventilation, a shelf for storing some towels and a courtesy light. Deck Storage.There are two under deck storage boxes in the cockpit. The mid deck box is shallow but long and wide. The forward compartment is more narrow, 17" deep. The forward compartment between the consoles is much deeper and held in the open position with a gas assist strut. At the HelmThe helm has an elegant uncluttered layout and is built with a stitched vinyl, non-glare brow and the white faced analog gauges at the dash panel give it a traditional look. At the lower left side of the dash, a premium sound system is easy at hand for the captain. On both sides of the padded Italian leather tilt wheel from Gussi are small storage compartments -- just large enough for keys or a cell phone. Below is the usual array of toggle switches and an optional 4” LCD navigation system is conveniently centered on the dash. The captain’s seat is an all new design with multi tone upholstery, side supports at the seat back with a soft cushion head rest. There is a bolster and the seat slides fore and aft and raises and lowers so all operators should be able to have optimum visibility. The bolster is in an accent color and raises up for leaning or sitting when the captain wants to see over the windshield header. We found the bolster a little uncomfortable to sit on but it did provide adequate support when standing and leaning against it. The inboard and outboard arm rests can be raised or lowered. Behind the helm seaton the starboard side is a wet bar. The hard surface countertop has a built in sink with stainless steel faucet, a stainless steel designer rail to keep things from sliding off, and a dual stainless steel beverage holder will come in handy. Whether it’s a wine bottle, mixers for happy hour or a couple of soda cans, the holder is a useful addition to the bar setup. Adjacent to the wet bar, on the starboard side is another bench seat, which has a latching lid with an insulated, self-draining cooler built in. The convertible sun padis located at the stern as we continue along the wrap around seating, here is a molded-in step, with the optional Sea Grass Mat carpeting that leads up to the stern gate, which doubles as a jump seat at the stern. Under the sun padarea is the engine hatch access. The whole seating assembly rises up on dual gas assist struts to keep it secure while performing the routine engine checks. At the base of the aft bench seat is a stainless steel mounting bracket for the pedestal table that can be installed here, at the aft seating area or at the bow seating area. At the port side, under the port quarter stern seating area is the access to the batteries and battery control switches. Forward, under the seat is a 48-quart portable cooler for the folks who like to load it up at home and bring it to the boat already filled. There is a well-designed compartment molded in under the seat that is both attractive and functional.This is one of the few sportboats on the market with three coolers aboard, two integral and one portable. Just remove the cushion, lift the latching stern gate, which is also the back rest for the jump seat, and walk out onto the swim platform. The aft seat easily converts from a bench seat that can accommodate 2 to 3 passengers in the cockpit seating area and one or two additional passengers at the swim platform area when the boat is not underway. The seating area then coverts to a chaise lounge with just the flip of a latch on each side……and then to a huge sun pad. The designers of the boat have made it much easier to get into the engine compartment to perform fluid checks with the addition of this molded-in step. It really makes a difference. The table is made of a high-density vacuum formed hard polyurethane with simulated wood grain that looks real. This table has a solid feel to it and the manufacturer tells us that it is waterproof, UV resistant and extremely durable. Look at the size of this cooler stowed under the port side bench seat. It’s a full sized 48 quart cooler that is kept in place by a raised edge. The swim platform areaincludes the aft facing seat and an added extended platform with its functional tapered design. These days more and more time is spent by boaters on the swim platform, and for that reason the designers have made this a special place by making it so large. Not only can two boarders get ready at once, but it also makes an ideal place to tie down inflatable water toys when going to and from the two areas. The platform is rakedin on each side so that when the boat pulls away from the dock bow first, the platform will not scrape along the dock. It is also raised about 13" off the water, higher than what we find on most boats. The reason for that is that when at anchor, people naturally enjoy sitting on the platform with their feet in the water. Because the platform is high, they don't have to worry about a wake or wake getting them wet. The integrated design of the sun pad, the color scheme and the SeaDek faux teak material at the extended swim platform give this 29 footer a much bigger feel and look.The faux teak material on the stern platform provides the classic look of a teak swim platform without the maintenance of real teak. Unlike many cruisers, this one is fitted with twin I/O stern drives which enable super steering, handling and trim capabilities. They shift better, have a better clutch and last longer. The Volvo SX stern drives have been completely serviced and have new seals, boots, etc. The two engines have been fully maintained and they are in excellent condition. I have enjoyed the security of having two engines in the event one was to be damaged underway. The engines and stern drives are in super mechanical condition! They have been well maintained and run GREAT with lots of power! The engines have about 955 hours. Marine engines are actually converted truck engines so one can expect thousands upon thousands of hours of great performance. (If you were to drive a truck 200,000 miles at 40 MPH, it would take 5,000 hours.) I have maintained the engines and this boat has lots of power coming out of the “hole” or while underway. Built on a beamy modified V-hull of solid fiberglass construction, the mid-cabin floor plan is arranged with a canted forward berth coupled with an L-shaped dinette/lounge across from the galley and a spacious head compartment. Privacy curtains separate the sleeping areas from the main cabin, and four opening ports and three deck hatches allow for plenty of cabin ventilation. Additional features include built-in fender storage at the transom, a walk-thru windshield, removable rear bench seat, cockpit sink and recessed anchor storage at the bow. It also has a very large extended fiberglass swim platform. For overnight stays, it has a full cockpit enclosure which is a great accessory. The unit may be plugged in to shore power while docked or powered by a portable generator while you are on the water. There is ample room in the engine compartment if you care to add a marine generator. The head has a toilet, sink and shower. Another sink is built in the kitchen counter and there is another on in the cockpit. The cabin has tons of storage under seat cushions and has several wall closets. CRUISER PERFORMANCE ON THE WATER: A combined 480 HP from the two engines gets this cruiser up on top fast and the top end is about 38 MPH. This cruiser has a strong takeoff yet is easy on the gas! It will quickly pull up skiers or tubers with ease. It is large enough to smooth out the roughest of waters! Unlike many cruisers, this one is fitted with twin I/O stern drives which enable super steering, handling and trim capabilities. This is due to fact that the stern drives provide the propulsion, turning, trimming and adjusting of this cruiser. Maneuvering and responsive turning is done with ease. Power trim tabs also enable you to adjust the ride to compensate for uneven loads. UNIQUE SEATING and BERTH CONFIGURATION: The cockpit features LOTS of cushioned seating for passengers! The captain’s bench seats 2 people. The lounge seats 3 passengers. The stern bench seat (removable) seats 3 people. A removable jump seat holds 2 passengers. A rear facing bench holds 2 people. MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: This 1999 Crownline Cruiser CR290 features two I/O engines which are Volvo Penta 5.0L GI’s. It has reliable Volvo SX I/O stern drives. The entire hull is flawless and does not leak. It is commonly known that Volvo is superior to Mercruiser when it comes to marine power-trains. They shift better, have a better clutch and last longer. The Volvo SX stern drives have been completely serviced and have new seals, boots, etc. The two engines have been fully maintained and they are in excellent condition. I have enjoyed the security of having two engines in the event one was to be damaged underway. There are about 940 hours on the Volvo 5.0 GI engines. Based on the age of the boat, those are very low hours. Also, since marine engines are actually converted truck engines, one can expect thousands upon thousands of hours of good performance. Volvo is also known as the “Cadillac” of marine engines noted for long life and quality. I have maintained the engines and this boat has lots of power coming out of the “hole” or while underway. For the last seven years that I have owned this boat, I have had no mechanical problems or issues with the engines. This boat does have bottom paint and could use a touch up or complete rework.
