He got there first. The Yellowfin 36 is all about speed and light-tackle fishing. There are no frills no showers no fluff. Race-boat performance and dryness make it fishable in a lot of conditions you just might prefer not to be in. But that's why Nagler built the 36. It's a logical step beyond Yellowfin's successful 31-footer with some significant hull modifications to account for the demands of an additional five feet of waterline. For one thing the bottom features two separate steps. The theory here is that the only way to loosen up a hull for more speed is to introduce air under it. Further vacuum is avoided by two pair of planing strakes that break and offset at each step effectively creating four strakes on each side. A pad keel runs down the centerline and has a deadrise that's slightly different than the rest of the hull. This expanded keel keeps the boat from falling off keel at high speed and eliminates the subsequent chine walking that can ensue. Above 60 mph everything changes it seems and considerations of stability and safety take on new urgency. This is a hull designed for high speed and with Nagler's background in offshore racing there's no reason to doubt his theories. This hull combines a wide flared bow and a graceful tapering sheer and provides the 36 with classic lines and an exceptionally dry ride. The racing pedigree of the Yellowfin is evident in the rigging too with Latham throttles and steering providing the control for high performance. Yellowfin ships the 36 with twin 225-hp four-stroke Hondas but also offers Mercury and Yamaha power options. Our test boat was rigged with Mercury ProMax 300-hp racing motors - three of them - which begs the question of performance and fuel economy which can be summed up easily: Fuhgeddaboutit. You'll pump enough petrol through this rig to give a Saudi sheik's son an Ivy League education. It's gonna run you a case of oil shy of a thousand-dollar bill just to fill up at the marina. The 34 represents yet another chapter in Yellowfin's rapid rise in the hard-core center-console marketplace. ADVERTISING Performance Like all Yellowfins, the 34 features a stepped-hull design with a stern pad to provide lift. Its two steps provide aeration and decrease drag, and this shows in the boat's performance numbers. We ran a 34 off Sarasota, Florida, on an admittedly calm day, but there was enough chop to get a sense of what the 34 can do. Twin 275-hp Mercury Verado four-strokes brought the 34 on plane effortlessly, with just a little bow rise. The boat settled onto a level running attitude almost instantly, and the Verados provided very impressive acceleration on this hull. When the helmsman hits the throttles, you had better be hanging on to something. Yellowfin President Wylie Nagler - a former boat racer - likes to go fast, whether it's on the racecourse or in a king mackerel tournament. The 34 delivers here as well. The Verados pushed the big center console to a cruise speed of 40 mph at 4,400 rpm while burning a miserly 23 gph. Push the throttles forward a little more and you've got 45 mph at 4,800 rpm at a 28-gph burn rate. Fast cruise is 50 mph at 5,200 rpm, with a 42-gph burn. Wide open, the 34 hit 56 mph at 6,100 rpm. Want to go faster? Hang triple 275 Verados on the transom, and the 34 reaches a blazing 67 mph. The 34 cut down whatever chop we could find (at 50 mph!), and the hull had a very solid feel to it. You don't hear creaks or feel shudders when this boat takes on a wave, and like the other Yellowfin models, it is amazingly dry. I've fished on Yellowfins quite a bit and have many times braced for a saltwater shower that never came. The hull throws water down and away and moves fast enough that when the spray eventually blows upward, you're already past it. I consider this one of the driest boats on the

The weight of the boat is a modest 8800lbs rigged, not a great feat for trailer or lifts making this boat even more practical for most. The center of gravity has been adjusted and well thought out to handle the monster 4 cycle engines. This made for even more room in the back for fishing area. Design Functionality Because of the console being moved forward the fishing area to the rear is tremendous. Also, along the sides next to the console with rods in the rod racks there is plenty of room. The console is neatly layed out to allow for easy read of electronics and plenty of storage under the forward seat. There is enough room for a small porta potty. The Storage in the boat is massive. Handling Without a doubt the best riding most stable v bottom 30+ foot center console I have ever been in. At drift she does not rock and roll like some V bottoms tend to making bottom fishing in a side to swell a breeze. Trolling she does really well. Up wind there is enough bow to keep her out of the swells up to 7 ft without trying to dip. Downwind she stays steady and does not try and surf. Across it its like your not even out there. Speed trolling I can run up to 22 knots she will stay steady at 12 - 18 under 15 she surges after 18 she planes. Cornering, this boat is on rails. Shallow draft when running she runs in about 18 inches if needed.

The weight of the boat is a modest 8800lbs rigged, not a great feat for trailer or lifts making this boat even more practical for most. The center of gravity has been adjusted and well thought out to handle the monster 4 cycle engines. This made for even more room in the back for fishing area. Also, along the sides next to the console with rods in the rod racks there is plenty of room. The console is neatly layed out to allow for easy read of electronics and plenty of storage. The Storage in the boat is massive. Without a doubt on of the best riding, most stable v bottom 30+ foot center consoles on the market. At drift she does not rock and roll like some V bottoms tend to, making bottom fishing in a side to swell a breeze. Trolling she does really well. Up wind there is enough bow to keep her out of the swells up to 7 ft without trying to dip. Downwind she stays steady and does not try and surf. Across it its like your not even out there. Cornering, this boat is on rails. Shallow draft when running she runs in about 18 inches if needed.
