1936 Dual Cockpit Vintage 15’ Wooden Boat “Miss Bert” Historic connection to Pasco Tri-City Kennewick areas, WA Vintage Hydroplane & Racing Boats on the Columbia River This 1936 historic wooden boat was named in the 40’s as “Miss Bert” after the original owner’s wife, Roberta. It has been passed down through 2 families, and enjoys the racing history of the Tri-City area on the Columbia River of Washington State. This has always been a fixture to the area, only used fresh water. This is a 1936 Mahogany Dual Cockpit boat built with copper rivets. The copper rivets were known to be used in custom Reinell, and other area quality built boats. The actual maker of this custom boat is unknown, but believed to be from the Puget Sound area. Mahogany was the top grade material used for the era. The side name & painting is original and vintage to this historic boat, this is not a recreation! You can tell the condition, boat has very low hours. There is no rot and all wood, seats, everything is original. Boat has always been kept on the trailer in heated garage type storage. HISTORY: In the 1970’s the boat was refitted with a newer motor and side throttle controls. The original 1937 Johnson Seahorse 22.5 HP motor was placed on a stand in the heated boat garage where it sat for decades. During the last decade, the low hours & original Johnson Seahorse 22.5 HP outboard motor was freshened up and polished and replaced onto the boat. It runs strong & fast.... I was told mid to high 30 mph ranges for the sleek & light weight boat. The Johnson outboard is a unique 2-cylinder with compression bleed off of one cylinder for easy starts. It also has a built in flush port for water hose. It turns over easily, but was drained of gas and winterized a few seasons ago. The steering wheel is active for the outboard. Boat has lived its life in the sunny & dry desert areas of Eastern WA. Sale of this vintage boat includes the original 1937 Johnson Seahorse Outboard with brass propeller. It also includes the vintage wooden trailer. Both boat and trailer are licensed and currently titled. Vintage trailer is in excellent condition and ready to tow anywhere. Boat and trailer were recently towed hundreds of miles from Tri-City areas to Seattle, WA, where it is presently garaged. TERMS OF SALE: Initial Paypal payment due upon end of auction. Believed to have served only three owners, this highly original, built-to-order classic mixes 440 cubic inches of RB V8 with classy pearl paint, a gorgeous Hawaiian Monkey-Pod hull, vintage tuck-and-roll upholstery and an original custom trailer. If you're shopping for a bad to the bone investment that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and ready to turn heads as soon as it rolls out of the showroom: congratulations, you've found your next obsession! HISTORY "I had no knowledge of either Hallett sale. I would have never let that boat out of our shop, with that Monkey-Pod deck." Jerry Barron of Hallett Boats When the head of the company that created your boat is quoted as saying he would've kept the hull for himself, you know you have one awesome ride! This 1964 Hallett Barron is a built-to-order classic that was 1 of only 100 produced and is believed to be 1 of only 4 still in existence. According to the folks at Hallett Boats, the vessel stayed with its original owner until his passing, and was eventually reacquired from that owner's children. As mentioned, Hallett then flipped the boat to its second owner, a California man. Some years later, when that California man decided to list the craft on eBay, the current owner spotted the listing but decided against a purchase. Then, about six months after the listing had expired, a deal was struck and the boat took up residence in Charlotte, North Carolina. HULL Officially classified as an 18-foot Hallett Drag Boat that's built around a Barron flat-bottom hull, this awesome craft is an immaculate, highly original cruiser that's been lightly freshened as needed. Since 2006, the boat has been regularly stored in a private, climate-controlled garage and, judging by its stellar appearance, probably hasn't seen severe weather since its 1964 debut. An original, never restored hull is crafted from rare Hawaiian Monkey-Pod wood that's completely cold-molded in a sturdy fiberglass shell. That 'glass is dressed in snazzy Pearl White and Metal Flake Red aesthetics. And overall, the boat is so clean that it could've freshly breached a 51-year-old time capsule. Inside, simplicity is the name of the game. An original Mahogany dash anchors an original Jones Motrola tachometer and original Stewart Warner accessory gauges in the sheen of original varnish. Flawless tuck-and-roll upholstery perfectly matches the boat's stylish paint. A solid floor frames a small forward/neutral shifter, a vintage Hall-Craft throttle pedal and an inconspicuous kill switch. And the driver navigates water through a classy Teak steering wheel. ENGINE That mention of 'simplicity' brings to mind another buzzword: 'speed'. And, thanks to the boat's 440 cubic inch RB V8, its proud new owner will certainly enjoy both 'speed' and 'simplicity'! More popular than the famed Hemi, Chrysler's stalwart 440 was designed to be the automotive industry's best combination of comfort, reliability and big block performance. Oxygen whips from stylized California Custom Accessories air cleaners to big Carter carburetors, which ride on a coated Weiand intake. At the front of that intake, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor spins between a mild cam and thick MSD Super Conductor plug wires. At the sides of those wires, polished Mickey Thompson valve covers perfectly complement over the transom tail pipes and water-cooled Glenwood exhaust manifolds. And a high quality Casale V-drive, threaded through a chrome driveshaft safety ring, keeps everything in motion. Naturally, the Metal Flake monster sips fuel through braided fluid lines, which are piped to a duo of manually switched gas tanks. The aforementioned shifter controls an in-and-out transmission that's devoid of reverse. And polished Nicson covers, a reproduction MoPar battery and aircraft-quality steering cables complete the old school look. TRAILER A prestigious trophy just doesn't pop without a cool display. In the case of this memento, that display is a custom trailer that, as far as we can tell, appears to be original equipment. Predictably, the rig is covered in the same Pearl White paint that adorns the boat's hull. Everything rides on painted steel wheels, which lap a quartet of 6.50-15 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls around dent-free trim rings and smooth center caps. And, as you might expect, the trailer has lived the majority of its life stored indoors. If you get the impression that we've grown particularly fond of this Hallett, you'd be exactly right! All the wood is Mahogany and hand crafted. The I.D. Number for the boat is 04126424 and the TX number is TX-2803-XP The boat comes with a vintage motor and a aluminum trailer. The motor is a 1963 Evinrude 75 H.P. Outboard. The I.D. Number is 09119 and the TX number is TX-1513-EL. The Evinrude has a recent tune up and it runs smooth. This is an electric shift (push button) out board Aluminum trailer looks to have little use. It was sold with a Bill of Sale I have clear Texas titles for boat and motor. I am advertising this boat for sale, for a friend that has been building and restoring wood boats for many years. He is from the Port Huron MI area, but now resides in Ga. and continues his craft. This launch is a new custom build using a derelict 1910’s era transport launch as a pattern. The original launch was used to transport people and mail on the St Clair river to and from Harsens Island. It was found around the Alganac area and was thought to be a Chris Smith, but found out later it is not. Some said it might be from a Marine City boatyard. Who knows? The original engine and rudder were missing. It had bench seats along the sides and a starboard navigation light board with the name Redhead carved in it. He built this launch using the original stem and skeg. He also retained the original hull shape using the derelict as a pattern. The new construction consists of: Single length white oak steam bent framing Framing skinned with 1/4" Ocoume marine plywood and sealed with West, Smith’s and Z-Spar paint on interior. 3M 5200 adhesive and ½” x 3” mahogany planking on bottom and sides Mahogany planking on the decks in a beautiful Herringbone pattern Custom built interior using all solid mahogany. Shaped bench seat arms with rosettes. Flooring is ¾” to 1” mahogany boards built using dado joinery and epoxy. Spray stained and varnished. Bottom and side paint is Z-Spar with decks and interior being finished with many coats of Z-Spar Captains varnish. High quality marine upholstery, stainless steel trim, glass windshield and vintage chromed hardware. The engine is from a 1960‘s Lyman lap strake boat. It is a 4 cylinder 120 hp OMC marine engine with a conversion kit. The transmission is a Velvet Drive. Both are in good condition. Mounted gauges for RPM, Oil Pressure and Water Temperature. This engine has more power than the boat needs and easily gets it to a cruise speed of about 12 mph. This launch hull was not designed to plane or run faster. Just cruise. The trailer is tandem axle with surge brakes on the front axle. Double bunked to fit this boat. New bearings and bearing buddies. All lights work. The tires have decent tread but are old. Fine for hauling around here, but I would not feel comfortable using them for a long trip. There is no spare. The trailer came from Michigan with the derelict boat years ago. It is not titled or registered. A bill of sale will be provided. If needed, the owner can raise the boat and trailer to load on your flat bed trailer. This boat was registered in Georgia by the owner/builder in 2007, as a 2007 built Chris Craft replica. The GA issued HIN is 38R29. The registration has expired. Georgia is a non title state for boats. A Georgia Bill Of Sale will be provided. The boat is in very good condition with the exception of a couple small spots of dock rash on the wood rub rail. It has always been stored on the trailer in a closed shop. The registration numbers are made of brass and screwed on. The owner will remove them, fill the screw holes and touch up the paint if desired. I think this launch would look great with a brass, stainless or wood plate on each side for the registration numbers. It has been used in many regional ACBS boat shows with very little use otherwise. The owner/builder is a long time ACBS member. High quality materials and craftsmanship in a reliable and beautiful antique style boat. E-mail with any questions. This fine piece of craftsmanship is being sold by the owner as a used boat with used trailer and are being sold "as is" with no warranty, liability or returns offered.
